For my 30th birthday present . . .
in March 2005, I'm buying myself an Impreza. I just need some opinions. I love the STi. But not for $35k. No way I could afford the payment and insurance. Here's the story. Going through a divorce, turning 30 next year, got 2 kids, paying on a 2002 Stratus Sedan 2.7L. I'm going to do my mid-life crisis a decade early. I need something I can mod and have fun with. I like the price of the 2.5 RS. Test drove one and fell in love with it. I've liked the looks of the Impreza ever since Gran Turismo. LOL! Anyway, I'm curious what the changes/differences are between the earlier MY RS and the 2005. I found a turbo kit for the 2.5 but I don't know if it will work on the 05. Any information you 'pros' can give me will be appreciated. I know all the exterior parts for a WRX will fit the RS, so I've been told. So exterior styling won't be a problem. I'd like to make this 2.5 RS scream, well, as much as it can anyway. Let me know, thanks everyone. Oh and I'm sorry if I repeated an earlier post about this sort of thing.
You can get a STi for less than 35k easy. I got quoted at numerous dealers for around 31-32k.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a 2.5 RS and put a turbo in it (too much trouble & not worth the effort)... and there are a LOT more differences than just a turbo (brakes, suspension, etc)
Just buy a WRX and be happy it comes with a warranty. And if you can swing the payments, get the STi
Good luck

I would recommend the WRX. Like soundwave said, there's just too much work involved in making a 2.5RS a WRX (much as there is a lot of work making a WRX an STi), and if you can't afford the STi, the WRX is the way to go. Lots of power, great handling, easy to upgrade and lighter on the wallet

I would suggest an WRX. A nice, happy medium. You can make them scream. They almost scream from the factory. A nice turbo back exhaust, an AccessPORT, and a good stereo, and you would be stylin'!!

i'm not worried about what pissant says, thus the name. i DO have my priorities straight. trust me. my kids are 4 and 5. they get everything they need before i get what i need (food, clothes, etc) i'll worry about my kids, that's my job as father. the divorce has nothing to do with cars. i asked for a simple opinion about which i should get, that is all. keep your nose in your own biz, pissant. sorry if this is a shi77y post, but it pisses me off when people assume shi7.

ignore him
He's a troll.
I'm in a similar situation as you.... about to buy. But I know I only want a standard WRX 'cause I like the wagon. Good luck in buying. I'm eliminating the last few cars I'm considering (including RX-8) before my final decision... but I'm leaning toward WRX.

get a WRX Wagon. its plenty fast from the factory and is superversatile, not that a sedan isnt either. plus they are way, way cheaper than an STI; i got mine brand new for $22k and you could easily get a used one for around $16k. good luck with your situation
