Looking to get a 05 or 06 wrx
Well I am in Santa Clara, and lets just say there is a 19 page thread about how bad that dealer is. (stevens Creek) So I am looking at haivng to drive to redwood city or santa cruz, maybe oakland if there is a killer deal. Looking at a blue wrx wagon (5speed of course) But what is invoice, a better question what would be a killer deal? I am also torn, get the better engine and brakes, and live with the looks, or get the 05 better deal, not have to wait for one I like. So any guidance would be great.
I'm kinda in the same boat as you.
I'm concerned about aftermarket goodies fitting the new 06's.
Like, are 04-05 suspension components, exhausts parts, upgrades, etc. going to fite on the 06's. Cuz thats pretty much gonna make my decision.
Thanks in advance.

On the aftermarket stuff...the 06 engine is a ej25t, so all the STi stuff from 04-05 should fit (exaust etc). And I believe the chasis is the same as 04-05, so all the suspension stuff should be the same too.

the 2.5 liter keeps bring me back to the 06... ill have to extensivly test drive both i think.
At first I was all for getting the 05, then I was like, the 06 for sure, bigger engine, bigger wheels. Well cept i would buy aftermarket wheels after hear how narrow these are, and how the tires are awful. So then it was down to brakes and engine. hmmm if I could get an 06 for invoice I think thats how I would go.
obtw congrats on making a choice, thats the hard part, paying for it is the easy part.

Personally I've been patient... Since 2003 I've been studying WRXs while commuting daily with a 96 Jetta (I avg about 30 mpg) and an 03 Mustang GT which I drive for fun... When the 2004 restyle came out for the WRX, I thought hmm... lets do this... But I just sat on my *** and studied the STi instead... and found its drivetrain to be more appealing and realized that hey... 227 hp has been with the wrx since 2002, they are BOUND to make this body style go out with a bang.
Honestly I was hoping, not expecting, the 2.5L to find its way into the wrx, but what really stopped me from purchasing was the frailty associated with the transmissons and really expected at least the 6 spd to make it into the 05 or 06... it didnt... they were reinforced and had synchros fixed, but no 6 spd... Then finally a few months ago I thought, PERFECT... ugly photochops of 06's, cant wait till they come out, perfect time to buy an 05 if I dont like the 06... So I waited on it, and now its here and once I heard about the 2.5L, I have decided to wait about a year (as you see i'm in no hurry) until the 2007 Impreza line comes out, So I can pick up a Limited Edition 2006 for invoice!
Those of you considering waiting or buying an 05, think about this... If engine size doesnt bother you and you like the styling, buy a 2005. This is the time to get smoking deals on them, because they NEED to move these units... In 2002, the hype of the WRX carried over to 2003s, and then in 2004 sales started tapering off with the introduction of the STi, and 2005 has been a bit of a struggle for Subaru... They NEED to move these units... Most people who wanted it, already have their 4 cylinder turbo car already. So picking one up for cheap is VERY do-able. Those of you who DO care about engine size...
WAIT and get the 2006 for a good deal... Because honestly, if youre all about power, you will kick yourself in the head for not waiting for a 2.5L... Most of you will be making payments for the next 5 years... EVERY subaru will have a 2.5L(at least) from next year on... the 2.0 will just be history... And there is soooo much left on the table with the 2.5L, I can assure you the WRXs are tuned VERY conservatively... Think about it... .5 liter of increased displacement, no cat on the uppipe... This yields large increases in power and torque... But Subaru only published the hp number @ 230 and tq @ 235... Why??? Because, if the WRX was claimed to put down 260-280 at the crank, think of how many potential STi customers they would lose to the WRX. Customers would say, "hmm Turbo back exhaust and tune will get me running alongside the STi for far less money." Aftermarket tunes will truly show the potential of these powerplants!
Just wait and see... I'm no expert but I expect these motors to be safely capable of 240-260 STOCK at the crank... Wait 'till COBB gets their hands on these. I wouldnt be surprised to see a Stage 2, pumping out 300-310 @ the crank!

Ive test driven an 05 and an 06, the 06 did seem quicker, the steering is nibler? if thats the right word for it. The salesman said he could let one go for 500 over invoice, is that a good deal? That seems pretty good to me. for an 06 wrx wagon 5speed wrb.
I got quoted for a little under 23,000 OTD not including tax (2006 wrx wagon, standard). basically, that means my dealer was willing to give it to me for about 22,250. Getting below invocie can be done and should be done. Just shop around and ask at least 5 other dealers in your area. Good luck.
I just got a white 2006 TR sedan for $300 over invoice @ Santa Cruz. it was about $23k before taxes and crap. Good luck to those of you in the market, no regrets here on going with the 06.
Santa Cruz Subaru
I bought my third Subie at Santa Cruz Subaru last May. They were fair and there was no hanky panky. Since then, the new sales manager is a very knowledgeable fellow who formerly was a service writer. He knows the products. He has hired new sales people.
I think you can do as well as I did, which was as well as the post above. These folks have always been very nice to me. Also, their customer for life program gives free oil changes every 3500 for 60K miles. That is worth maybe $500. Also, parts and service is discounted 10% for those who buy there. And there are free rentals when your car is in for paid service. What is not to love?
As for the San Jose dealer on Stevens Creek, I would not give those folks the time of day. My opinion is that they are rude hustlers beyond the control of Subaru of America and also that they charge too much for parts. I bought one car there and would NEVER EVER EVER EVEN CONSIDER GOING BACK.
