Lookin for 04 WRX.. few q's please help

hello.. yes im the noob to the forum, some may know me from honda-tech, and others possibly from the disfunctional srtforums. but i have made my way here and i intend to stay with i-club. i fell in love with WRX performance long ago, but not until the 04 model did i like the cars looks. I am only 16 and currently own a 2000 Civic Si. nice car for a kid my age and i have no complaints, yet i would very much like to step it up to a blk WRX 5spd sedan. i have already test driven an 04 sedan and loved it, my mom i am happy to say liked the car almost more than i did. she was amazed at the smooth ride and the AWD privliges over my Si. My purpose in creating this thread is to ask fellow i-clubbers how they feel about the new 04's (yes i know it has been asked countless times already) and how you suggest would be the best way for me to go about getting into one. I would like to get the OEM boost gauge, sti hood scoop, sti front bumper splitters, sti or prodrive muffler (which sounds best???), and no wing. please let me know what kind of insurance rates i can expect as well as prices for the car and following mods. any help is much appreciated, thank you!

When people ask me if I miss my Civic Si, I say "what Civic Si"? I traded my 2000 Civic Si for a 2004 WRX and I can really say I don't miss the Honda. Sure the Civic held some sentimental value but the same amount of tears and sweat that went into the Civic will now be put into the WRX.

The Civic and WRX are nothing alike and going from the Civic to the WRX is a big change. It will be interesting to see how AWD feels at the autocross and on the track. I've driven RWD and FWD but this will be the first for me with AWD.

As far as insurance goes, my insurance actually dropped some with the WRX. I was shocked but my insurance agent said it is because the Civic is one of the most stolen cars in the US. Also the WRX has AWD, ABS, side airbags, daytime running lights, mine has an alarm, and the Impreza is one of the safest compact cars. All of which make the insurance lower. It will still be insanely high for you if you are only 16.

Your best bet to find out what the insurance rate would be if you got a new WRX would be to call your insurance company and ask them. Get the answer direct from the source. Most insurance companies also give out quotes on their websites, but calling your company directly is faster. They dont penalize you or raise your rate for asking for a quote so why not give them a call?

Since you are so young it will probably be quite high. When i was 16 or 17 I was all set to buy a new Integra GS-R until I found out it would be $2600/yr to insure it. I settled for a used 95 Accord that was still plently powerful and cost me about a 1/3rd of what it would have cost me to insure the GS-R.

Also think about college. I was SO glad I hadn't dropped all the money for a brand new GS-R when I got to my University's parking lots. Most people are idiots and can't drive, let alone park. Since my car was used I could live with it getting dings or scratches. If I had had a new GS-R I probably would be in jail right now for killing someone that dinged my car. They make those student parking lots small

Now that I'm done wtih school I now work there and park in a staff lot with normal sized spaces. Now I won't have to worry about coming out and seeing a new ding or scratch on my car every time I go out to the parking lot and I can enjoy having a new STI (coming soon!) and not have to worry about it getting scratched up.

I bought my 04 WRX about a month ago and it is fantastic. I have about 80 miles left in the break-in period so I can't wait to see what it can really do. I used the internet (www.carsdirect.com and www.autobytel.com) to get some quotes and then went to see dealers in person. I paid $10.19 over invoice.

The OEM boost gauge is not that great. It is in MPa, not PSI. The lighting is weak as well as being a different color than the instrument panel. To fit an STi hood scoop, you are going to need an STi splitter (but an Sti Scoop only makes sense on an STi intercooler or the fit won't be right). You know that the '04 WRX has a bigger hood scoop than the '02-03s right? You are in California and should know that cops can now ticket you for what they "percieve" to be a loud exhaust. The Prodrive sounds great, but you are sure to attract a lot of unwanted attention.

I would suggest you start with new tires. The stock RE92s aren't great for anyting at all. Try looking around these forums and see what others have to say. You may want to reduce the understeer with a new rear sway bar too.
