Ignition/Clutch switch acting up?

The '02 WRX (and all manual Imprezas, from what I understand) has a switch that prevents you from even trying to start the car unless you have the clutch all the way to the floor. Unfortunately, I'm having a problem - even with the clutch rammed all the way to the firewall I will occasionally just have the ignition totally fail to engage. After a few tries it works, but it is really scaring me - what if this switch fails? Does anyone know how this ignition cutoff works, and where the fail point is so that I can replace it?
