I need help
I recently got my 30k maint done and started having problems .My 2004 sti stalls when sitting at stop lights and the dealer can't figure out why... Last time it was in the shop they"reset the ecu" which fixed the prob for like a week and a half. Dealer is now telling me that they checked every thing that is covered by warrenty last time so now any thing that is could be is gonna cost. Its all stock except for a 3" cat-back and a k&n intake. Any input would be apriciated!!!

Put the stock catback and intake on the car. See if it still stalls. If it does, then disconnect the battery for an hour. This will "reset" your ecu. See if it stalls. If it does then take it to the dealership and ask them why a totally stock STI is stalling. If they give you the runaround about how you used to have a non factory exhaust on the car, then ask to talk to the owner. No one else, only the owner will do. Tell him that you are trying to be reasonable, that you returned the car to stock to make sure that the extra airflow was not causing the problem. If he refuses to help, look him in the face and say "It only costs me $25 to file suit (price in VA..MD might be different) and I am sure that when I explain my case to a judge or jury that they are going to agree that a $30,000 car should not have problems within the first 30,000 miles, and that the now stock car is still under waranty which you aren't honoring. If he tries to tell you that modifications "void the waranty", then tell him that case law has set president that requires that he show that any problems are a result of modification and not defect. Furthermore, there is no way anyone is going to suggest that by adding an airfilter and catback that you have caused any problem that couldn't be solved by changing back. If the ecu is shutting down because the airfuel mixture is off or some crazy thing, then it should be fixed when you change back. Also, hundreds of people on this and other boards have done the same modifications without adverse effects. Universal Consumer Code has a warranty of merchantability that says basically, a pruduct should last as long as a reasonable person thinks it should last. I.E. if you buy a t.v. (related to later story) that has a one year warranty, and it breaks 18 months later because of defect or poor quality, then it doesn't matter that Sony says that the warranty is one year, no reasonable person would buy a $2000 t.v. if it was going to break a year down the road.
Be nice at first. If he refuses, then be firm. NEVER yell or cuss. Remain calm. Law suits are lost by people with good cases (either side) because they act like *** holes...people don't like to find in favor of *******s. If you can manage it, tape your conversation on the sly. I can't tell you how many times I have dealt with people and tape recorded them saying something stupid when they didn't have to. I took my t.v. back to Bestbuy, they tried to fix it, but made it worse. When I talked to the service manager he told me that it had that problem when it came in. I said it didn't, and threatened to sue. He said, "who do you think there going to believe, me or you." (he didn't know I was a police officer at the time) I got the store manager, and the service guy said "I didn't say that". I played the tape of him saying it. The store manager said, "your fired, and we would like the opportunity to replace you t.v. with a new one sir." Long story...2 morals:
1. always tape record your conversations...someone will almost always say something stupid (make sure it isn't you).
2. *******s never win (if you can show everyone else they are an *** hole)
