Question I could use some advice onsuspension and brake selection.

Here is the situation. I am at the point where I have to put some money into my car or trade it in. I have a 1996 OBS w/ 155k miles. The engine is still strong and I enjoy having no car payment. I should either replace rotors, pads struts and springs or just trade in the car. If I do put the money in the car does anyone have suggestions for parts that are stock or slightly better but still a reasonable price? I would like to see the car make it to 250k.

Thanks in advance.

i say it would depend on whether or not you have a strong sentimental tie with the car or not. it does seem like it may be easier to buy a new(er) car if you have to replace all of those things. i dunno if you want advice from me since im a newb and i pretty much dont know what im talking about. but thats just my opinion.

It also depends if you are planning to do any of the work yourself. You should be able to buy brakes + pads all round for under $500 for the parts, and the springs and struts could be around the $800 - 1000 mark depending what you choose.

I had a quick look on Tirerack and I could only see Koni inserts ($150 each) for your car. You may be able to get OEM units a lot cheaper (OEMs for the WRX from Tirerack are $80 a corner).

If you went to a dealer, obviously it would be significantly more expensive.

Unhappy

thanks for the response but in the mean time i have found a great deal on an 03 Jetta Wolfsburg 1.8T. I think I'm going to go that route. My right rear wheel bearing just took a dump on me today. I heard it squealling so when I got home I sprayed down the rotor (to see if it might have picked up some debris) and steam came off of the wheel. Bad things man, bad things...
