The battery has a warranty but it doesn't cover the full cost.
If you look in the warranty booklet you'll see it's covered for 100% of the cost up to 12,000 miles then the coverage goes down by percentages after that.

Have you checked the fluid level in the cells? Don't overlook the obvious, like I did at first.
Mine started to "die" around 20k miles and I was all set to go get a replacement...after finding several cells majorly low on fluid and then adding some distilled water to bring them back up to snuff, it has been fine for the past 12k miles. I've since added "check the batt fluid level" to my oil change service list...
Brent.

As for myself, I purchased an Optima Red-Top battery but I had to return it because it wasn't the the 35R (reverse style) and the positive lead didn't reach.Poo...going back to get the right one.

Read my post above, you could have used that Red-Top with a cheap replacement starter cable. Not sure how things are in Canada, but I'm not aware of any stores here that stock the 35R, they only sell the 35/75. Probably because it fits more cars. If you really want the 35R you may have to get it online.
My battery in my 02 wrx was pooched. The dealer told me that it was a Pro-Rated Warranty, and I would be better off to go aftermarket.
I got a Optima 35 red top from wal mart (for $138 Canadian,) and layed it on it's side with the optima's terminal posts facing the driver. I bought some gold terminal posts from a stereo shop, threaded them into the battery's "side terminals" and hooked up my wires.
Been in for 3 months, faster starts, and my volt meter doesn't dip as low when my bass hits at high volumes.
