Unhappy HELP high rpm and losing power

I have a '05 WRX with 38k. Having issues with the RPMs in 3rd & 4th. If you are at 2.5rpm and accelerate hard, the rpm rev really high but the car does not go. It feels like you lose power (but nothing happens) then the car kicks in hard.

I have reset the battery and added high octane booster.

Any thoughts!!

you can also email me at sawyer10@sbcglobal.net

Thanks,
Brad

looked in the impreza service manuals for both MT and AT but didnt find anything, sorry.

I only have the 02/03 manual, but I think the tranny section should all be the same.

sounds like the clutch is slipping but it should happen in all gears under a load not just 3 & 4

Well.... if the car is not doing the same thing in 1st or 2nd which would place even more load on the tranny/clutch than 3rd and 4th, I would say that he should be objective and wait to see if anyone's else's advice would be of any value. Your car is still covered under the powertrain warranty, take it down to the dealer and have them check it out, it couldn't hurt. Unless you have warranty voiding mods.

The load on the clutch will be the same regardless of which gear is selected.

Engine -> Flywheel/Clutch -> Transmission

Clutch slippage is more apparent in longer gears because the revs climbing without speed changing is more noticeable. If this is happening, the clutch (assuming manual TX) is the only 'slippable' connection between the engine and the wheels.

Given that he has tried octane booster and an ECU reset so far as remedies, I would suggest that he should take the car to a mechanic.
