The downpipe would be considerably more work to remove than the listed modifications above.

In my state (Utah), a catless downpipe won't pass emission inspections. But I want to make sure that I don't have any warranty problems, so I think I'll either be waiting til my warranty period gets closer to ending or maybe I'll buy an STi downpipe that will look closer to the stock WRX downpipe.

The downpipe bolts right onto the turbo then to the midpipe, which goes to the rear section. In maryland all we have to do to pass emission is have our cars "talk" to the DMV's computer. This is only on ob2 cars (97 and newer). Also a company called MRT makes a down pipe that is catless, but looks like it has a cat on it. Just some ideas.

I've read that there is no difference between the STi downpipe and the WRX downpipe.

there isn't a difference between the USDM sti downpipe and the wrx downpipe. the JDM v7 STi downpipe has 1 less cat in it, the piping is all the same diameter, and the jdm uses a different midpipe.

*sigh* technically speaking subaru has the right to void a portion of a warranty if the "aftermarket" parts directly affected it. keep in mind that factory warranties cover the items that were installed at the factory.
sorry if i feel redundant.

The usdm sti's do not have a cat in the up-pipe, the standard wrx does
