Don't let this happen to you!

I was doing oil change last night and for the first time, after changing oil for 7 years, this happened...

I drained the oil and replaced the oil filter, poured 3 1/2 qrt in, turn the car on/off, and checked the oil level. It was a little low, so added some more. Then after 4.25 qrt it was still dry on the stick, I was like, WTF!? I checked under the car, about a qrt of oil on the ground.

it turns out the oil was coming from the filter and the rubber oil gasket from the old filter got stuck to the engine so I ended up with 'double' oil gasket and created the leak. I never knew those suckers would come off of the filter.

Lesson to learn... Always check and make sure that stupid oil gasket on the oil filter came off with the old filter to prevent my stupid mistake.

well as least you had cat litter... it was around 9PM and my gf was an hour away. Luckily I had enough oil left. Didn't want to walk to kragen in the rain at night and don't even know if they open that late....

Find a pet store that sells Snuffy's cat litter. I don't know about other stores, but we sell a 50# bag for $17 which should last you years of oil spills.

well... couldn't have gotten any at the moment since the car was down and it was late. But it might be a good idea to have some around now... not sure if I really want to use cat litter... there might be better alternative...
