dissapearing coolent
sence I replaced my waterpump and timing belt i have been loosing an avrage of 1 liter of coolent per day. Where is it going?
i checked under the car and only see evidence of leaking around the termostat housing/lower radiator hose area. there are no signs of coolent loss around the head gaskets. there is no smoak on start up / heavy power. The oil levle is not rasing any. There is the smell of coolent when i stop at lights or park the car every so often. I dont know if the fluid i am seeing on the lower hose is from filling the resavwar or if there is a small crack or leak that doesent show untill under power? there is a bit of a trace of burnt coolent on the heat shield on the exhaust manafold but that looks like its just splash off from the fan.
will air bubbles in the system take up this much coolent? this has continued sence friday.
I know the head gaskets are prone to failing on the outside causing a leak, but is it common for a leak to develop going into the cylinder?
I tried to check for leaks by letting the car warm up on blocks and having a friend rev the engine while i look.
I also tried to pressure check it but the tool i rented dident fit the subaru....
so ....
HELP
what should i look for any one expearence this before?
please let me know
kevin

I think i solved it. The coolent (I think) was comming from the heater hose comming off of the water pump. When i replaced it i never thought to replace the "spring"style hose clamp. I think the outlet for the new water pump was slightly smaller than the stock one. Last night i replaced all the clamps on the lower radiator hoses and the heater hoses and there was no fluid loss on the way to work today.. so if this keeps up im good to go!!
