cv-shaft seal replacement?

I have an 04 outback legacy that I am rebuilding from a wreck. When I was changing a cv-shaft I removed it by just pulling the shaft from the differential. Instead of removing the roll pin & sliding it off of the shaft from the differential. When I removed the shaft from the differential I messed up the seal in the side of the differential case. How do I replace this seal? It looks like I can spin off the side cover, but I'm assuming this cover also helps setup the gears inside the differential. Well how bad did I screw UP? The seal is trash, so I have to replace it.

Thanks
Jeremy Oliver

When I replaced my cv boot I had to remove the axle from the rear diff. The instructions I followed noted not to damage the seal....unfortunatly its too late now

I would call subaru and see if they sell a replacement seal and/or can tell you how to remove it. Or call up one of the vendors on this site like LIC or Gruppe-S, they are pretty friendly and knowledgable. Good Luck.
