You're not far from STi power in the Legacy. I'd bet you can get up to STi power levels with just exhaust and tuning. And then you only need injectors and a turbo...

legacy definitely has the more potential for pimpness
while the STi has more potential for performance supremacy
i wish the legacy had the seating support like the STi- then that would be nuts!

isn't there a rumor about sti legacy coming to the states in 07?
i like the sti
other choices are great too, but i like the sti.
with my wrx i get a bit over 300 miles per gallon, but i don't take the rpms to high. the tranny has a small problem with all the power, but you're going for the sti anyway so it doesn't really matter.

ok, so I've been outta the loop a bit, and Evo8 MR looks and sounds pretty damn sweet, and I've also talked to a few mistu and STi owners in NY SCCA who know some history of the cars... Now those 2 are dead even with MR on the table... Crap - why can't this be so easy?
Both have their problems in certain areas, and both have their pros. Putting it side by side it's dead even to me. I also read the thread you guys have Evo vs. STi. I like the comment test drive and pick which ever one feels best. LOL Although at $33k the MR looks like a steal... (although I'd make sure to get glass coverage on the insurance with that paper thin glass!)

i'm also having a similar debate as u. i've lurking this around here on and off for a long time. actually, i was looking to get wrx wagon in 2002, and i ended up getting an s2000. i didn't think that i would get s2k since it's almost 10k more than wrx, but it ended up that the lease number of s2k was just $50 more than the wrx i was qouted. subaru dealer just didn't want me. and i ended up getting the s2k and i'm glad that i did.
now sti is a different story as u mentioned we out grown the car. so i'm thinking what to get in 6 months. i'm considering:
x3 instead of 330, since we have a 325 already, and new 3 series are coming next year even though they are uglier but new model is new model, the handling i heard is nicer, and the aero kit look is amazing. and the biggest reason is they have super nice deals on these bimmers now which is why it is still on my list compared to evo and sti. and for those that say legacy is the same clase, sorry they are still not the same class. although they looks like the same class, but legacy and g35 never have the solid feel when u close the door, and all the class and fine touches. and i don't think i'm biased since i still like the s2k better than the bimmer, but there are places that s2k doesn't match the bimmer.
a4 1.8t ultra sport package avant. class and lots of mods available. did think about g35x but same reason as yours. s4 is too expensive. it's no competition vs sti and evo, but if u can consider 330 a4 1.8 with chip and downpipe is not much different, and they have better awd system as well.
05 sti. haven't seen it yet, but heard about the nice interior upgrades. current interior is nice already and the new upgrades should make me very happy. the exterior though is ugly, and i can feel u from rsx. i like *** version legacy wr sooo much though. if it's here, it's the end of my shopping around. and i prefer wagon when i get a subaru.
evo mr. i like the look of the car and the only complain is the interior cheapness, oh and reliability. heard that they upgraded interior as well. so i'm hopeful.
so my plan for now is cross fingers for legacy sti wagon, then evo mr and 05 sti, or a4 ultra sport and x3 depending on the deals.
good luck to your shopping, but i would just wanna bring up legacy sti, a4 ultra sport and x3 with aero kit. so links if you have not seem them yet.

After comparing the MR specs and the STi, I've come to the conclusion that the MR is a friggin death trap. Being a commuter doing a reverse commute from NYC to NJ, I have to deal with crazies on Route 78. Last summer some guy plowed into my rear at 80 mph when i was at a dead stop (bumper to bumper traffic... was he friggin blind??!). Luckily the RSX has a huge rear reinforcement bar which took 90% of the damage. Had it been something like the MR, I'd be eating the dude's engine in my ***. With the MR forget it. It's nice and all, but I don't wanna die. Subie is back on my #1 so far... Now the hard part... STi or turbo Legacy GT?
