Checking out an 02 WRX today in houston
Hey all
Im going to check out an 02 WRX at a Subaru Dealer after work today.
It has 60K miles =(
I know a bit about the history of the vehicle. The sales manager, for whatever reason, told me the car was modded. He said it had exhaust and a few other mods. All mods and maitainence was performed by the dealer. The owner traded the car in for an sti. All mods were transferred over to the STI. Not sure if he ran a boost controller but I definitely plan on asking.
The dealer claims the car is mechanically sound and in perfect condition..dont they always =)
I plan on asking for a compression test but I need the numbers. I searched but could not find them on this site.
Should I even bother checking this car out or am I setting myself up for major issues down the road. The big thing that concerns me is the possibility of the car being mechanically weak due to racing/high boost/autocross

02 with 60,000 miles. i say go shop for another one. modifications are always acompanied by some sort of hard driving. at that mileage there are many things that need to be checked/changed. spark plugs are one. if you must absolutely buy this one- ask for a carfax, maintenance history reports(from dealer) and lastly as for a warranty up to 100,000 miles. if they can't offer that i say shop around-
i sell these cars so i know you can do better- unless he is selling you the car well below wholesale book.

WOW let me tell you!
That vehicle was definitely a bomb.
Let me provide a word of warning for any Houstonians looking for an 02. Its sitting at Gillman Subaru on Ranking Rd.
There's a list of things wrong with it. This vehicle was previously heavily modded. It had a front mount. You could tell by the fact that the front bumper looked like someone took a jigsaw and hammer to it to get it to fit. The Mass airflow sensor had a screw missing. It was most likely removed and replaced by a stand-alone fuel system. The heatshield was removed and the bolts on the Turbo had wrench marks. Im guessing that Turbo was upgraded.
Im amazed they took pictures of the car with the gauge pod installed. When I looked at the vehicle the pod was removed and the sales guy had "no knowledge of it".
The service dept said they would run a compression test but at this point I'd be setting myself up for disaster if I purchased this car.
Oh well...back to searching.
