CEL need help please
OK so here is the problem. About 2 weeks after i got my 99 2.5rs in October, sometimes when driving the car, it would give out a horrible egg smell. I thought nothing to serious of it. Then about a week after that my clutch started not coming up all the way and i would have to click it up with my toe. Then yesterday when driving, my car started to jolt in 2nd and 3rd gear, after about 2500rpms. And now today i finally get my CEL, and am wondering what is wrong with the car.
I am not sure if the Egg smell has anything to do with the clutch or transmission, but thats the problems my car is having.
Please leave any helpful knowledge. Thanks in advance

You may have a set of unrelated problems. Certainly the mechanical issue of the clutch pedal not returning has nothing to do with the exhaust smell (which may be due to the car running too rich for some reason).
As for the CEL the only way to find out what it's from is to have it scanned and the code read. If you are in a state other then CA, you can go to an Autozone and have it scanned for free (they don't do it in CA anymore). You can also ask for help in your local forum as many of us have scanners and can check it for you. Once you have the code post it here for more help.
Do NOT attempt to clear the CEL by disconnecting the battery, while this may temporarily turn off the light it also erases the code from memory making it impossible to read and therefore difficult to troubleshoot.

The rotten egg smell is from excessive hydrogen sulfide being produced during the catalytic reaction. It is generally not from the cat being bad, but from it being overworked due to too much unburned fuel passing through it and being catalyzed. The cause may be that the engine is running too rich, or that the type of fuel being used has a higher than normal sulfur content. Running the car for a long time in an overly-rich condition can cause the cat to overheat and be damaged.
As for the smell when running catless, it will stink but won't be the same rotten-egg smell that comes from the cat. The CEL is because the missing cat causes the ECU catalyst efficiency test to fail.

Well i went to autozone today and of all things, The code turns out to be : Cylinder 1 Misfire
Well i think i have an idea what that is, but can anyone clarify it for me and what steps i need to take to get it fixed ?

It means just what it says, the ECU has detected a misfire in cylinder 1 at some point. This is likely related to the driveability symptoms you mentioned (but not to the clutch issue). Could also cause the egg smell if the misfire is bad enough.
The things to check first are your ignition wires and coil packs. If the wires haven't been changed in a long time or you don't know how old they are, change them. Inspect the terminals on the coil towers where the wires attach, they should be clean and shiny. If the terminals are dull or corroded, or there is evidence of carbon tracking anywhere on the coil tower, the coil pack may need to be replaced. If it's just a dirty terminal sometimes it's possible to clean it.
It's also a good idea to pull the spark plugs out and inspect them for wear and fouling. If one or more cylinders have been consistently misfiring it may be evident from the plug condition. Replace the plugs if they're questionable.

Heres how to fix it
Ok heres the deal, the egg smell is because Cyl 1 is missfiring ( most likely bad spark plug) thats because the Cat is working overytime to burn all the unburned fuel from cyl 1. Second of all your clutch cable might just need greased but most likey your clutch is going bad. The choppy feel is the misfire in Cyl 1 agian from the unburned fuel... I would inspect the Ignition wires for small cracks, if there are any get an ignition wire set, also replace all your Spark plugs, if this still dosent help then seek a shop before you burn your cat out.

I would take it in to a dealer to have them look at the problem as soon as you can. A person i know at my work had to have his engine replaced because he had that same problem. your car dosnt have ignition wires, it has a selinoid directly conected to each spark plug and that would be very unlikely to be the cause.
Actually since he has an RS it does have plug wires, only the turbo motors have direct coil-on-plug ignition. The NA motors have a coil pack on top of the engine with standard type wires from the coils to the plugs.

Well I am bringing it to AZP in kenilworth NJ saturday morning. Its actually backfiring all the way through 3rd gear now, i have a feeling i am going to have to replace alot of exhaust exponents, which i hope is the case( COBB tuning here I come).
But while at AZP i am gonna ask them to change the spark plugs and wires, and when i take it home i will install a custom grounding kit and see if that does anything.
Thanks everyone i will keep u all informed on what goes on.

What is going on?
Also the guy working there said that i should drive it around and come back if the CEL comes back on.
