So I'm approaching a month of renting a car for $25/day and my trans and motor have not even been diagnosed yet. I've been lied to multiple times about the timeline, etc. and I have reason to believe that my car has been mistreated. Between a rock and a hard place right now but my car doesn't have a power or drivetrain and I'm into a rental co. for $600 come Wed. Do I have any recourse?
Yeah of course you can sue the mechanic but be careful, it happens to them all the time and they know the system. if your serious about it i would get advice from a lawyer first to see if you have a winnable case, good luck

As a shop owner, I advise you not to sue. As a political science major, I feel that it is the root of all evil. But at the same time, WTF? There should be no reason for them to take so long. I bet they're just sitting on it. But at the same time, I bet they know they're sitting on it.
I would just tell them you talked with your laywer and don't actually sue them. This should get them moving. It works ever time. Just bust out with "So my laywer says you have *** days to finish the job and then ****". Of course this would only be a small claims affair. So don't act like you're going to take em out.

im sure if you threaten to take legal action they will get their **** together, the same thing happened to me and as soon as we said legal action they fixed it... give it a try if they continue to do that just get it towed somewhere else d: ( good luck
Check and see in MI has a division in Consumer affairs that deals with auto repair facilities. In CA it is called BAR.

Funny i read this now, my girlfriends car (99 carolla) has been in and out of some mom and pop shop for several weeks with the same brake system problems (shudders when coming to a stop) I work at a shop (ferrari/lambo...so I cant take it to work) and her parents insisted on brining it to that place. Every time they get it back they say they resurfaced the rotors, changed crap, etc...but it always comes back. So every time its sent back I tell her dad to have them check certain things...of course I go ahead and say do balance and check tire pressure of the bat, etc...
anyway today I hear that they brought the car to the toyota dealership and are slapped with a $900 bill to have the rotors among other things changed. It seems that the shop DID resurface the rotors but neglected other areas...like bleeding the system correctly. Didnt replace clips that they say they did, forgot to replace a clip in one area leading to a loose brake bad which prematurely warped a rotor causing the vibration leading to a replacement of the rotor...you get the idea.
Now I find out that her parents also have a van that they have been brining to that shop which always returns for the same problem.
Sue for this?? I THINK SO.
All I know is that every time they brought her car back (excluding the van) they spent around $300 each time and it was servived about 4 or 5 times.
Im telling her to sue but just in case she does what should I bring to the table so they cant weasle their way out of this? I.E. toyotas work order about crap that wasnt done....

as a mechanic, i can tell you it doesn't happen to us all the time . i've never even met or heard of a mechanic being sued. could you do it, sure why not. but you would be suing the shop more than likely, not the individual. i've seen guys **** up bigtime, but they either get fired or put on suspension for a week or 2. there's some shady techs out there, but for the most part the lies come from the people up front, not us

yeah I agree with munky, you cant blame the technician himself you have to blame the shop and take the shop owner to court, you sue the person highest on the "food chain", the person everyone has to answer to.
