pass on that one

pass on that one. You can get an 05 for that. There's very little additional factory support for an 04 vs 05 at this time, so he basically "owns" that car for about the same as he owns his 05's for. Dealers are loathe to take a loss on a car, regardless of age, but will frequently sell even a current model year, relatively high demand car for only a few hundred dollars profit if the deal is negotiated properly.
If you bought that 04, you would take the most staggering showroom hit known to mankind (except, possibly for buying a leftover old body style Durango, but that's neither here nor there....), since a used 04 with only a few thousand miles generally RETAILS at dealers for 19-20 ish, and you see them here private party for 18. Do you really want to take a 5500 showroom hit on a car? If you want to save some $, find a nice used 04. Otherwise, buy new 05.

9-2X Aero?

Not to sound like a broken record, but if you're looking for a WRX wagon, have you considered looking at the Saab 9-2X Aero? If you can find a dealer to sell you one at invoice, a new 9-2X Aero with sunroof should be thousands less than the used price of that 04.

9-2x

It is a good point SaabAeroDude,
There was some discussion about the current incentives on the 9-2X in another thread which you may want to read (not you Saab, the other guy), but I did look into it by secret shopping my local Saab dealer, and I had no problem at all getting them to offer me invoice, which after the rebates, is legitimately cheaper than a new WRX. So if you're not 100% into performance, it may very well be worth grabbing a few extra luxuries and a bit softer quieter ride for a few grand less. From what I can tell, most WRX performance mods should work fine on the 9-2X, but it is significantly heavier, so from a strictly performance standpoint, you're starting a small step back.

05 for less

you can get a brand new 2005 Subaru or Saab for that. We were pretty clear...
a 2004 is a month or two away from being 2 years old. If it were used, and titled with 9 miles on it, it would be worth 19K maximum RETAIL. KBB is a bunch of algorithms with no bearing on actual market value. If you want to take a $5000 showroom hit, go right ahead.

Have you considered the Saab 9-2x Aero? GM is offering rockin deals on those right now (employee discount for all buyers plus like $6k incentive), and they come fully loaded - STi steering rack, leather, moonroof, heated seats, yada yada. They look way better than ANY WRX and all the stuff for the WRX wagon fits them

still no

a base WRX should be costing you in the 21's somewhere after incentives.

Care to explain why the dealer that sold that 2004 is a "A$$hole" though?!?

You know, most of the people that are helping you on this forum work for dealers, we make our money selling cars, and if we held onto a car for a month just because some guy expressed interest in it, we'd be broke. You didn't buy it, someone else did. If you went into a clothing store and looked at a shirt, and told them you'd be back in 2 weeks, could they please hold it for you, they'd laugh at you.

That being said, whomever bought that 04 got ripped off if they paid anywhere near what you said they were asking for it.
