Question Best steps for fuel filter / fuel system cleansing?

In another 800 miles I need to change my fuel filter and use fuel system cleaner. I was thinking to use these steps for cleaning everything throughly.. any opinions?

1. Fill up full tank of gas + add fuel system cleaner (required anyways)

2. Burn down to 1/4 tank of gas

3. Fill back to to 1/2 or full tank

4. Replace old fuel filter

I thought doing it this way will help to clean the system out while not having to get the new fuel filter dirty. Lemme know what you guys think.

You do not "need" to use any fuel system cleaner. The fuel you use already contains detergents and other additives to keep the injectors clean. As long as you replace the filter at the proper intervals you don't need to do anything else. The only exception might be if you know for a fact that you got some heavily contaminated fuel.
If it makes you feel better you can occasionally add a can of Techron or something similar to the tank but even that is probably overkill.
Dealers and shops will sometimes try to sell you a fuel cleaning service as part of their maintenance schedule, but it is unneeded and just another way for them to make money.

Thanks for the info! Looks like I'll just fill up my tank and add the fuel system cleaner (already bought it) then replace the fuel filter right after that. I'm not sure what the different additives are in the various gases, usually I fill up at 76 station with 87 octane in my 99RS.
