2006 IMPREZA 2.5i PROBLEMS
Hello,
I recently purchased a 2006 impreza 2.5i and had it for about 2 months now. Here are the small problems that I encountered so far.
1.) Light in rear spoiler always fogs up, its the second time to have it replaced. Was told by salesman that he was installing the WRX spoiler, not so. I mean the spoiler it-self is ok, it that friggin light. Im going to ***** if it happens again for a "real" WRX spoiler.
2.) When heater or AC is on, there is some kind of fan/mini motor going on every 30 seconds and makes the rpm jump, dont know if this is normal, let me know. (**Very annoying)
3.) Paint on Hood, roof and rear trunk has spots/blotches in the paint. Could this be due to the protective plastic that it comes wrapped in?
4.) If Im in a gear, push the clutch and rev the engine, this really weird crunching sound comes from the clutch/engine area. Doesnt always happen though.
Other than that, the car handles great and is fun to drive. Im very **** so the slightest thing gets noticed. Let me know what you guys think,
Thanks,
Tony

1) Do a trunk swap. That'll fix it.
2) That's normal actually. Your compressor is cycling on and off, and the idle will kick up slightly when it is on because of the slight increase in engine load.
3) That could be any number of things, from paint inconsistency to improperly polishing it when they detailed it. They should be able to buff it out.
4) It doesn't make the noise in neutral, with the clutch in? It sounds like it might be a throwout bearing, but let the pros figure that one out.

Hey, thanks for reply. Yea, that crunching noise is a little funny. Im heading on down to the subaru dealer next week. I'll keep you posted on what it could be.
Later,
Later,
As mentioned the AC thing is the compressor cycling, it's perfectly normal. It shouldn't happen with just the heater on but will happen in defrost mode. Actually it might run in any mode if you have automatic climate control, I'm not sure what you have on the 06.

No, its a manual climate control system. It goes on during 30 second intervals when the heating is on, even if defrost is off. Its bothersome when the radio is off and when you hear it kick-in, it also disrupts the rpm substantially by at leat 400-500 rpm. Guess I'll have to bring it in to check it out.
Is the heat in bi-level mode (heat plus defrost)? I think the compressor will still run in that mode. Also you can try pressing the AC button to see if it stops the compressor from running, the newer cars may have that option. Might want to have a look in your owners manual for the particulars on the HVAC and when the compressor is supposed to run.
But in any case if in doubt by all means take it by the dealer and ask them about it. If they say it's normal and you aren't convinced, ask them to show you another car like yours that does the same thing.

Update On Paint
Would like to give you guys an update on the paint situation. The Subaru dealer will be repainting my entire car. A representative of Subaru Canada said it wasn't normal and decided to repaint it. I hope everything goes ok and the paint will be professionally applied and worked on. Will be going back in 2 weeks for this.
I'm going to check out the bi-level and A/C thing that was mentioned some time tonight when i get my car back.
I'll keep you guys posted,

ok,
For the ac compressor jump thing, it only happens when the dial is turned onto the "windshield". If i turn the dial to the front vents only, it doesnt do it. Im guessing it uses the compressor to clear visibilty quicker.
Problem solved,
I hope the other mini problems will be this easy, lol

thank goodness there's this thread because i'm about to ask.. I've noticed that when i turn on my ac there's some sound like an electric motor inside and it kinda gets irritating especially when driving w/o music.

yup, this is normal. Its the compressor feeding the cool air.
Guess what, i found another "little" problem. Whenever I give alot of gas until around 5000+rpm and let go of the gas, theres this weird noise that sounds like a small ball in a plastic tube that is moving around coming from the front right side of the engine. Could it be some sort of vibration?? Also, when i rev above 3000rpm and let go of the gas, when it drops to 2800rpm, there is a strange vibration noise coming from the front of the engine. Let me know what you guys think?
