Talking 2003 Trade in?

Whats up guys, just wanted to see if you guys have any ideas on this....

OK 2 years ago i got a 2003 RS auto with help from my loving parents...and immediatly fell in love with the car, however i was dissapointed in the fact that it wasnt stick and of course, not a WRX....so 2 years ago i took the ragging from everyone "trade it in a get a WRX"....well finally my rents are allowing me to do so, im just wondering how difficult this is going to be, and if it is worth it. I know after selling my car (which only has 22K miles on it) that i will prolly need to throw a few grand toward gettin a used 2002 - 2003 Rex. Just wondering what you guys think, i mean the wrx has been my dream car for a while now, and im just wonderin how much of a pain this trade will be.

Thanks!

go for it!!!

do you owe anything on the 2003 rs... if not then just get what you can for it and get an 04 off of the lot. the prices of 04s should be down a lot anyways since the 06's came out... you might be able to find an 04 on a lot and be able to save... if you truly love the bugeyes... then trade the rs into a subie dealer that has a used 03 on it. I would say deal with the dealer tho cause they can typically cut deals when it comes to trade in and buying. Then again you can also get screwed too... the thing is, if you want something quick then do that, trade-in and buy from the same place. if you dont mind waiting a little while, post it for sale and sell it privately, then go to a dealer and get one. its hard to say which method is best. typically you can sell a used car privately for like an 1000 above a trade-in price but then again if you buy the rex from the dealer you traded into, then they could probably be more apt to cut you a 1k price drop on the used one maybe.

Might want to wait and see the 06 WRX, it will have a 2.5 litre engine w/only 3 more HP but a decent amount more torque (230hp and 235lb ft torque). Same engine in the new Forester XT Limited which is considered a toned down STI engine. I'm guessing this new one will have less turbo lag and be much more driveable.

There will also be a new design for better or worse (I personally like it).

It depends, do you have another family car that you can drive around for a while?
if you do, I would just sell your car and save all the money I get from that in the bank(13-14k?).
Work full time for a summer, and save as much as possible(6-7k?). Then with all the money you saved youll hopefully have enough to get a used sti from someone who wants to get a 06sti or evo9.

On the other hand if it's your only transport, then get a 02 / 03... still a great car, but has many shortcomings when compared to sti, and even the 06 wrx( which i read on here supposedly has better engine, transmission, and brembos(?) )

gluck dood.

worth doing

it's definately worth doing, but expect it to cost more than "a few grand" to swap from an 03 2.5RS A/T to a M/T 2003 WRX with similar miles. All told, after tax, fees, etc, I would estimate that to be a 5K swap.

However, there's nothing you could do to your current car with 5K that would make it an equivalent performer to even a stock M/T WRX, so it's a good move in my book if you have the money.
