My 2000 Impreza Outback Wagon has a nasty rattle from the rear hatch. I have heard people complain about this before.
Anyone have a simple fix or an idea of what to look for?

Same issue here
I have the same thing with my MY00 Wagon. Doesn't happen at first, but by the end of any long journey it is rattling, especially if it is a bumpy road. Had a brief attempt to figure out where it is coming from - sounds like its around the latch area, but not definite yet.
Will update if I sort it.

The hatch rattle I had (97 OBS) was from the defroster connector melting off
the wire and rolling around in the hatch. Sometimes it would lodge itself
somewhere and stop rattling for a while and then it would break free after
a good bump and the rattle would be back.

Also have a rattle coming from the hatch!
I also have a 2000 outback sport, and I can't seem to solve my rattle. I tried securing all the wiring for the rear lights, and it seemed to help for a while. Then, I had to tighten the hydraulics in the lift. That also helped a bit, but I was still getting a rattle some days. Now, some days I get a very loud rattle, other days it doesn't rattle much. I wonder if it is the hydraulics.
Any suggestions?
