'05 sti or '05 evo mr....which one?

ok...i realize this is probably a popular debate already, and obviously this sight is biased for subaru. also, i dont want to start up any mud slinging. i would just like some opinions about these 2 cars so i can make an informed decision when its time for me to purchase.
my take so far is that the evo is already a better track car...better steering, etc. i dont really go to the track so thats not a big factor. i like the idea of a 6 speed for interstate travel which both these cars have. i have test driven an evo and i loved the feel of the 5 speed transmission and the steering. the suby dealer wouldnt let me test drive the sti
. ive heard some complaints about the 6 speed's feel though...not as precise, etc. i did notice the evo's lack of torque at low rpms, but damn it rockets after that. i think i scared the guy with me. it was his 1st day
. he knew zero about the car. which was good for me since i didnt have to listen to a bunch of sales pitch chatter. anyway, ive got a copy of r&d's speed magazine, and its got the evo mr on the front. they say its 'definitely' coming. the numbers are phenomenal: 4.3 0-60, 12.9 1/4, 280bhp, 295 ft-lb. its got an upgraded turbo, 6 speed, suspention upgrades, etc. plus, the cars a good bit lighter. now i also see the '05 sti has some upgrades with steering, ayc, better interior, new colors, etc. i will say i do like the look of the evo more. it looks more aggressive and sleek to me. i love the front face. i dont really care for the big hood scoop on the sti either and the wing on the evo is a better shape. if my choice was only about looks id take the evo. but of course, its not. i want better, useable performance in a daily driver. i dont thinks the evos tight steering would bother me at all as a lot of reviews have suggested. the sti useally gets the nod for daily driver in most of the reviews. i also like the idea of higher displacement and less boost. i dont know why exactly, it just seems like it would be less tension on the engine, but i dont know. also, one last consideration. ive been reading on evo sights that mistubishi is in big trouble. they are facing bankruptcy after a decision by their major stockholder, daimler-chrysler refused to bail them out again. apparently its very serious, as in mmc may bite the bullet and die. then what would i do if i owned an evo? where would i get parts? who would do maintenance and warranty work?, etc? ok, i know this isnt very structured, but i hope it makes sense. i just dont know what to do. theres lots of considerations and both cars seem awesome. id probably be happy with either, but i just want to know every piece of information i can get. its going to be one thing likely that pushes me in either direction. help me please!!!

Hehehehe....you need to start using the [ENTER] key, my friend.
From what I have heard, the 05 STI is not really that different from the 04 (mainly just cosmetics). The '05 does NOT have AYC, it will have a sensor on the DCCD which is not the same thing as the as AYC.
If you don't really go to the track (just once and while) I would still get the STI though.
For a track car, you can't really beat the EVO.
As far as your question about parts availability if MMC goes under, I'm not sure about that.

I would get the STi regardless. I just like and trust Subaru more. I don't really have a reason for that which could be put in to words, it's just my personal preference.

Well if you're looking for reliability, mitsubishi hasn't been the best in that segment, so that might be an issue to you, if so, I would go for the subie, great reliable car.
Both cars are great! It's a tough descision. You said in there somewhere that you wanted function over form. Remember that you have to look at this car every day. If you like the looks of the Evo better that is probably the way you should go. I think that you would get used to the way it drives. Those articles are from people who just drive them both for a few days. If you drive an evo for a while you would get used to it. The torque would not be an issue because you would learn what gears to have it in at certain speeds. If i were in your shoes i would get the Evo. I prefer the STi. I love my WRX and subaru has been good to me. I ahve heard that mitsu is not quite as good on their warranty though. As for reliability the Evo motor has been around for a while. I am not sure aabou the MR motor though i think it is different, maybe not. Those engines can handle a lot more boost than the stock is putting out. As for the STi that engine is relatively new and the hard numbers on reliability are not in yet. I can tell you though i have heard on no one having any major issues with their STi's yet. Good luck, i'm sure you'll love either one.
Buy whatever makes you happy and whatever you can live with .... =) ..... I know I'll get flamed for saying this .... (won't be the first time) .... but I would buy the EVO MR. Performance and looks is what matters most to me .... I just can't get over the EVO's steering ratio ...

thanks for the input guys. i think im gonna have to wait and see what happens with mmc. if they go under before the evo mr or whatever theyre gonna call it gets here, then it may not be a good idea to get it. thats even if it comes. who knows? in the meantime ill be checkin out the my05 sti. i sure do like that new gray color. is it possible to switch out the sti wing and hood scoop with the wrx? would the smaller hood scoop let in enough air? would either fit the sti? are there aftermarket options for the wing and hood scoop yet? that may make a big difference in my decision. thanks again.

Well about the mitsu going down under, its not going to happen. In a recent article Mitsu invested a lot of money back into its company. Not sure if its really coming, if you noticed in the SPEED magazine, things were fixed like the photoshopped pic of the interior [ the tach, clutch and so on is backwards]. But people on the evo forums say that they've already put down reserves at their local dealerships.

don't count subaru out yet- the MR is just more motivation for them to release a u.s. version of the spec c. if they do. . . mitsubishi can kiss this round goodbye too.
my advice- i was raised on subarus, i bought subarus, and i sell them. 'nuff said.

off the lot, i thnk that the evo is a better car. however, the last mitsu i had was renamed the "****su". i agree with earlier posts that subaru makes a better all around product.
i wouldnt spend money on another mitsubishi but that is just me. god luck on your search!
btw, the new R&T has a small write-up on the evo and a possible mini-version that goes 0-60 in under 4.5!! possible 2006 release
