Is the 2005 Legacy built stateside? And if so, what is still built in Gunma? It is Gunma? right? My concern is that American made cars are not as quality controlled as true imports. Like the Nissan Armada/Titan for instance.

The USDM Legacy is built in the US. The only US Subarus that are still built in Japan are the Impreza and Forester lines (though, that might change next year). The Legacy, Baja and Tribeca are the ones in assembled in the US.

I wouldn't worry about quality though, as the vehicles are held to the same standard here as abroad. Also, a lot of the componets are still made in Japan, and shipped to the US to be assembled into cars.

US vs Japan

many Japanese companies have shifted to making USDM vehicles here, since one of the major "anti-import" stances is that it takes american jobs away (even though Ford has many factories in Mexico and Canada, but can still say that its vehicles are made in North America....). However, plants like Lafayette, and Nissan's new Smyrna TN facility (as well as, interestingly enough, Hyundai's new facility) are state of the art, and produce amazingly low tolerances on vehicles. When working for Nissan I had the pleasure of touring that facility, and it is truly amazing. The cars are essentially completely built by computer, so not even incompetant lazy american workers can screw it up (that was a joke by the way, in case anyone works at a car assembly plant... don't hate me).
