Question '04 WRX or wait for the '06?

Hey all, I wanted to ask a question... I'm looking to rid myself of my Civic and get something tons better (looks and performance). I first thought about getting an Evo, but something tells me I'd be happier in a WRX (not to mention insurance would definitely be cheaper for the latter).

I really really like the body of the '04-'05 WRX. My friend owned an '02 and loves it.
So here's my question: Should I try and get a used '04-'05 WRX, wait for the '06 or settle for an '02-'03?

I'm 23 and moving out of my parents house next week to move into an house I'm renting (try $450 a month and I don't have to pay utilities!!). Currently I own a GSX-R600 that I'm still paying on and my Civic which I owe about $3500 on.

Of all the 06's, the WRX gets the most amount of improvement compared to the other 06 Impreza models. It now has a 2.5 turbo as opposed to the 2.0 turbo in the previous generations. The 06's torque goes up to 235 ft/lbs which is a pretty big improvement over the 05's, and the horsepower is up to 230. IMO, if you have the money, get the 06; it seems like the better performer.

I really like the look of the '05's interior w/climate control and all. Shoud I try and wait until the '06s come out before I try to scoop up a leftover '05?

What price should I look at spending on an '05? Down in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area I've seen used '04s going for around $21k... is that too much? Decent? Are there better deals out there to be had? I want a WRX bad...

I paid 25,000+ out the door. I didn't have the Premium Pkg, since I really don't need any of those. At that price, I've also included a rear spoiler because it wouldn't have it without the premium pkg. I think you'll do just fine, especially they've extended that 1.9% special financing, or a $1500 cash back. I had a $1500 cash back and credited it as a down payment to further bump the cash I have.

IMO, from now until the end of the year is the best time to buy those left overs 05 WRXs. You can get great deals if you're good and patient at dealing and if you do your homework.

If I didn't have my 05 WRX today, I would definitely get the 06's since it has good improvements, especially the torque bumping up from 217ft-lb to 235ft-lb. That makes a difference, with a .5 liter bigger than the previous WRX.

After looking around, I'm gonna wait for the '06 WRX. It looks really mean and I love it. Kinda torn between 2 colors though... Crystal Grey and Steel Grey

You can buy the 2006 wrx below invoice. I got quoted about 350 below invoice a few days ago. There are many dealers who would lick their chops if they were able to sell 500 above invoice cuz they will profit around 1,200 from you. If you hold your ground during the negotiation and shop around (10-15 dealerships), you should find several places selling below invoice. Do youf research and howmework and you wont get screwed. IMO dealerships should only profit about 2-3% from the transaction, that would be roughly 500-700 dollars.

I only wish there were 10-15 Subie dealers around... where I'm at, there's only 3 (Arlington, Dallas and Lewisville). Dallas has a blue '06, but I wasn't able to go and look at the other day, maybe this weekend. I'm leaning toward white or steel grey. I might have to make a drive to Austin or Houston for one. I also heard to talk to the fleet guys when buying... why's that?

Mokujin, I don't know. Maybe the fleet guys bypass the middlemen and sell for less. In any event, if you only have 3 dealerships to work, getting a bargain price will be hard to come by. If you are willing to travel out of state, say Florida, you may have a better shot of getting invoice or better. Just remember, Subaru dealerships get about a 3% holdback of invoice price so even if they sell it to you for invoice, they are still making around $600 off the sale. Good luck shopping!!!
