02 wrx tranny problem

My tranny just went out on my 02 wrx and I was wondering if I should try to put a 6 speed sti tranny in it if that can be done. Or should I just rebuild the one I have?

I would have to say, if you have the money, go for the sti six speed but do realize that you have to get new front axles, driveshaft, shifter assy, rear end (or new ring and pinion), and dccd controller if you get a trans with a dccd. Otherwise I would just rebuild what you have. Another option is to rebuild your case with an RA gearset or similar, which would be stronger than stock, but you can still use your wrx driveline parts. Personally I have the RA gearset in my bugeye and LOVE IT!!

I do not agree with REX02
My swap cost me less than rebuilding with ra gears ... and my tranny is much stronger.
Plus I have the shorter gears that work really well in an autocross environment.

All you actually need is a tranny (which usually comes with the shifter assembly) and a 3.9 ring and pinion from a 90s legacy for the rear end.
I had my driveshaft cut to fit, reused my axles, and did end up getting a DCCD because the company I bought my tranny from sent me the wrong type (I ordered a nonDCCD)

Look here for what you will need to swap in a 6MT

i personally would go with a ppg straight cut 1-4 gearset dont think anyone has broken a set yet.
