WRX/STi did the math MPGs
OK. I gassed up today. Mine is an '03 WRX Sedan. Minor Mods: K&N Panel Filter, SSR 17X7.5s, Kumho MXs 225 45 at 38 & 40 lbs PSI. Mostly commuting > 65 MPH with Chevron Supreme nasty California RFG. 11.5 gallons and 22.6 MPG. And yes, I like to boost.

Man, no one else posted any MPGs. It would be useful if i-clubbers had some accurate real-life MPG figures to consider. It would help in evaluating mods and the effect they have on fuel effiency, how much power they are producing (power = fuel in many cases) and how the different model Imprezas vary.
It's easy to do and if you are online, you have a calculator on your computer. On Windows XP, you'll find it under the "start" menu and then it's under "accessories." Make of point of zeroing a trip meter on your car when you gas up. I print and keep a receipt at the gas station, and write the miles since my last fill-up on the receipt. Hang onto the receipt and you'll have everything you need the next time you are at i-club. Just enter the miles off of your trip meter (like 247), hit the / key, enter the gallons figure on your receipt (like 11.51) and then hit the = button... then you will have an accurate MPG.
The first time you post, let us know what kind of mods you have that may effect fuel consumption, or other factors like driving style. Long trips, passsengers, terrain and altitude matter, too. And don't worry about how the rest of might think... we might just think a low MPG means you have some gas-hungery mods or like to drive fast. Or, if it's a high MPG, that your car is really well-tuned. Do a couple of posts, as the values will vary (MMV) from tank to tank. And if there are any unmodded cars left on i-club, please post! Help establish a baseline. ALL IMPREZAs, ALL MODS, ALL YEARS PLEASE!
I gassed up today (10.75 gallons) and got 21.9 MPG. Incidentally, my gas gauge was at EXACTLY the same place as when I gassed up last time, but the fill-up today was 3/4 gallon less.

gas mileage varies so much. the thing to do is keep track of it all every time you fill up and then after you have a ton of data, average it all out and that should give you a good idea of what your gas mileage is like. just taking a single fill up has way too many variables in it (quality of gas, driving style, tire pressure, type of driving, shift points, etc)

Good idea. I could just keep the receipts (with miles written on them) together with a clip and keep it in the glovebox. I know more the data the better, but what might be a useful number of fuelings? I would think 10 fuelings would show some smoothing. We don't need a lifetime average.

I just got my car, i've started to do what my friend does:

For the last 55,000 miles my WRX wagon has yielded 20 mpg plus or minus 1 mpg with very few exceptions. FWIW, I have roof racks, and almost all my road trips are done with a roof top box or mountain bikes on top. The one road trip I didn't have any thing on top and I was doing the speed limit I got just under 26.

i used to keep track in a little notebook when i had an 03 focus. then when i got my 96 cobra i didnt want to know, so i stopped keeping track. ignorance is bliss in that sense. i think im gonna start keeping track again. so far on this tank its right at 1/4 left and about 235 miles. so whatever that is.

My latest in my '02 WRX was 24.79 miles per gallon over 266.9 miles. Part of that was highway driving, but at least 150 miles of that was a drive in the Sierra foothills with some sightseeing and some spirited driving.

I get about 270-280 miles to most tanks of gas, and I always run my car until the idiot light comes on. I usually fill up about 13-13.5 gallons, so my car averages about 20 mpg. I have a catless turbo back exhaust, and an up pipe, and a lead foot, and most tanks are a combo of highway and city driving.

I've gotten everywhere from 31mph with the economy map loaded on the AP on a trip to Pismo, all the way down to a sad 11 mpg going over highway 17 and back on highway 9(to santa cruz and back) trying to keep up with one of my friends with a mean GS-X.
With technology aside, gas mileage is a simple function of how well the nut behind the wheel is adjusted. I used to constantly ***** about bad MPG with my accord v6, mostly city driving but I averaged about 17mph with that pig, I'd get 22 highway most of the time too, my mom came out to visit and I let her use my car, she was averaging over 30 mpg driving all over the bay area.
