hows the water temperature?
chenge and check oil if its milky

best fuel is 100 octane gas but if you cant afford it all the time, 91 or whatever the highest at the pump.
If you are using stock ECU, it should retard the ignition timing itself and should run.

If there is steam coming out of the engine compartment, don't drive the car until you get it fixed. This is not a normal condition. Steam inside of the cooling system does not conduct heat away from the engine. Checking the coolant level after it has cooled down, is the level where it should be?

If the bottom hose remains cool even after the engine fully warms up, the coolant is not circulating properly. A Subaru tech will know whether to check the radiator, thermostat, or water pump for proper operation.
