Wrecked My Rex!

Buying a new WRX.
I played two dealers off of each other, and bought my WRX for about $2500 under sticker. It took a week of phone calls back and forth, and the two dealers leap frogged each other by about $100 at a time. You must be patient, and ready to walk out on the deal.
Just an FYI, Kelly is great, but it's a ballpark figure. I the car I didn't buy was a brand new '03, no options other than the security upgrade, and I could have bought it for just UNDER $23k. I paid about $500 more for a car with the auto dimming mirror, speaker package and sub, and air filter.
Good luck!

Drew,
If You had my claim, how much would I get for my car. Totalled 2002 wrx with 16,000 miles, wing, boost gauge, armrest, dimming mirror, and premium sound. Also one of the dealers told me I should get reimbursed for the tax value on my car too because say I traded it in for $22,000 and bought a new one for $24,000 I would only have to pay tax on the difference.
Thanks for any help.

USAA, and what is Galves??? Something similar to NADA? My Dad wants to get rid of him pickup, so he is going to trade it in on the new WRX. This sucks as I now have to wait until he gets back from Vacation in February to get my new car. Until then I am stuck driving his pickup.

Sorry to hear bout your wrecked wrx bro. My GSR was stolen last month and they gave me like 1000 dollars under KBB which is pretty accurate cause KBB is usually about 1000 over so it works out. I am still waiting for my check though. I dunno if it works the same with wreks as with theft, but if they total it out you should get real close to Blue Book. Hope this helps a bit. Good Luck!!!
Just as a side note, I am picking up my new wrx this week.

there is some validity to OneFast944turbo's comment about *** cars bending like pretzels. the japanese have a different philosopy an automobiles. they widely use "crumple zone" technology to protect occupants in an accident. while this is very effective at keeping the passengers safe, it also greatly increases front end body damage. essentially, the front end folds under itself, often badly damaging the engine as well.
the european approach to safety concentrates on keeping the occupants safe, while at the same time minimizing the harm done to the car. they do this with lots of structural support to basically make the car "armored". it works great. there are many more savaged mercedes, bmws, VWs, etc. than Lexus, toyota, nissan, etc. the drawback however, is that the european cars are A) more expensive 2) weigh quite a bit more 3) often need bigger engines, where the **** make do with a more efficient small displacement engine.
personally, i prefer the european side of things (but maybe i'm biased). it's just 2 different philosophies about crash safety.
....anyway, that was off topic a bit. sorry to hear about your subie. totalling a car is never fun. i totalled my LS400 about 6 months ago.....huge nightmare. thankfully, in the end they fixed the car, and i was only stuck with the $500 deductable.
