Window Tint vs Auto Dimming Mirror Help

I have the auto dimming mirror option and plan to get some fairly dark tint (needed here in Florida). How does it effect the functioning of the mirror??

Thanks in advance

The mirror explodes and projects glass shards through your jugular.

Is that "Jugular" or "Jaguar"

It would really make a big difference.

We have an autodimming mirror and tinting in our Outback, the mirror works just fine. The mirror has the rear facing light sensor, so if enough light comes through to blind you it will dim. With the tint it just dims a little less is all. No worries there. A bigger worry is being able to see out the back at night when you back up. I had the back two sides tinted 25% and the front sides and rear 35% transmittace. This way you can see OK at night but because it's dark inside it all looks the same. From what I understand the heat reduction in the car comes from the reflectance of the film not really how dark it is. Here is a pic from the rear back and even though the rear is silightly lighter you can't tell:

Something that helps see better when backing up at night are brighter back up bulbs. These suckers are bright:

Peaty, thanks for the tip. Where did you purchase the Narva 796 35w lamps? I couldn't find anything online and doubt my local Pep Boys stocks it. These look like exactly what I need to overcome my really dark rear window tint.

There is a link to the site I got them from. FYI, those 50W crappy quality back up bulbs you see at Pep Boys aren't very good trust me.

Your posts made me think of a question -

Peaty, how did you tint those windows? did you do it yourself or take it to a shop? How are they even applied? ALso, were they expensive?....any idea what it would cost..I am thinking of doing that to my Subie.

I've had 3 cars done by a local guy. He does a fantastic job an the cost was around 120 or so. He has a lifetime guarantee too. Tinting is something best left to the professional. If you do a bad job, taking it off can take 10X longer from what I understand.

Thanks for that. I e-mailed Daniel for availability, since the lamp wasn't listed on his Products page. I also won't bother scouring local 'fast auto parts' outlets for a lamp of inferior quality - I don't want a taillight lens meltdown.
