Since the motor is coming out I'll probably wind up doing more general maintenance- clutch water pump etc., so its gonna probably wind up in the vicinity of a couple grand I expect.
we'll see, I'm already taking advantage of some great i-club support- found a short block and pair of heads in the classifieds and Adam at LIC was great at quickly and definatively getting to the root of the problem.
Plan is to swap the heads out stick with my original bottom end, and start a side project of building up a strong block and heads for a spare motor from all the leftovers
and you guys getting misfire CEL's might want to pay a little more attention, if injectors get clogged and one cylinder starts to lean out you might not percieve any knocking, but chances are you will suffer my fate eventually, so pay attention to which cylinder especially if it recurrs a lot.

thanks for the info, good to know for the long run. although it may take me about 6 more years of driving to get that much miles, i plan to keep the car until death(of me or the car, whichever comes first)

i'm particularly interested in the durability of the EJ20 motor in stock form. engine mods as well as track use or any other factors that might have contributed to its demise would be helpful...so that i can veer away from them. LOL.

Car Info: 02 WRX TBE,-progress rear sway bar, and a whole lot of love
I actually just bought it 2 weeks ago from my boyfriend (BiG DeWeY)...he really drove it hard...it spent time at the drag strip...at the tail of the dragon...and quite a few other places, but he took very good care of it. I am very impressed that is holding together so well. He did some modification to it while he had it...and he has big plans for the future as well. He added a turbo back exhaust and a rear sway bar. Right now we are working on his new Subaru...then we will go back to mine for a while.
