what to do next
I just got my 2002 2.5RS and I want to up my performance without adding turbo. I was thinking of new exhaust and a cold air intake + a chip. Are there any disadvantages or drawbacks to doing this? What about anti-sway bars? I'm open to any suggestions.

Because the chips wont do anything. There isnt much tuning to be done to a EJ25 electronically, unless you really mod the crap out of the engine... Its nothing like say a BMW or GTI where a chip actually releases 10+ HP due to detuning by the manufacturer. Its a SOHC engine producing most of its power mechanically, so exhaust/intake/lw drivetrain mods do the most, until you start modding the engine internals.

For some reason intakes don't do a whole lot for Subarus atleast the WRX and STi but try the non-turbo powerplant forum for more info. Maybe a K&N filter, definitely remove the silencer, the exhaust is always a good place to start and don't forget suspension and braking cause they practicaly equal hp in anything but a drag race.
