upgrade query

I'm still driving my '93 Impreza daily; with 160,000 miles it's served me well and runs great. I'm less than thrilled with the 1.8L engine however. My mental business partner is enjoying his Vishnu-enhanced '03 WRX. At the moment I can't step up to buying a new car and I also enjoy the fact that my used and abused car is low profile; I leave it in questionable neighborhoods without fear for it's safety. I also own it outright, a nice aspect. My question / dream - is it reasonable to purchase a WRX engine / tranny unit to install then go through the brake and suspension upgrade in this old beast to end up with, for well under half the price of a used WRX car, a monster HP car with a very low-key exterior? What are the drawbacks from this? I think this sort of project (beauty and the beast) is very appealing but if it is a pipe dream, I'd like to know sooner than later. Any opinions?

If you can get the cake together to purchase the ej-20 then do it. I see those motors around for good prices. Get the install done then make your car more ralley than street fighter. There are some *****en roads up your way for a ralley car

if you have the time/money/patience, definitely do it! back in the day i was seriously considering an mr2 turbo drop (3s-gte) into my old 91 camry. it would have cost $10k and taken around 2-3 months. (minus suspension and brake upgrades), so the cost killed this little pipe dream.
