Transmission Question...
Alrighty, so I purchased a 1999 2.2L, the perfect college/snowboarding vehicle since I currently am going to school full-time and work part-time on weekends.
I noticed once I got the car, that the entire car vibrates slightly in second gear, right before the auto transmission shifts to third.
I questioned the dealer repeatedly, I didn't know if it was truly something serious or not, but he claimed there are a lot of Subaru's like that.
It's weird, when accelerating in first it's smooth, second it shakes a little as the RPM's get higher, and once it hits third it's smooth the rest of the way up. I am so puzzles and paranoid ( I had a civic that the transmission blew... right after the radiator/waterpump went... followed by a headgasket going).
I am poor, pretty much, I don't have much money to spend on fixing a car up constantly.
The transmission was under warranty for a while, but I got no where when I brought it in to have it checked out. I don't seem to be losing power while it vibrates, it's just really annoying, and all I know is it potentially could be dangerous.
I just don't know if this means the transmission is bad? Should I worry about it too much? I've had the car for well over 9,000 miles now and I have not noticed it getting worse, nor better.
Any insight is helpful, I'm at a loss.

i know this might sound stupid, but have you changed the fluid lately? i had a gmc truck that had 3 transmissions in its life. when it would shift rough, a change of fluid would always help it be smoother. it might be worth a try to change the fluid, as it is a possible cheap fix.

The dealer only dealt with subaru, but it was a private owned dealership.
When I brought it in the first time, they put some fluid in to clean out the clutch, he thought it might be a problem with the clutch at that time.
Well, that didn't work... In the other thread SUV suggested I get the tires realligned and balanced, so I plan on having that done when I get snow tires on. I will keep you posted.

does the trans have this problem when going straight or in a turn.first check all the tires and make sure they are all the same size and dia.if all ok with tires, then try putting a fuse in the (fwd)
fuse holder and then try to duplicate.get back to me after you have checked these out.mark each tire with a crayon.drive slow to complete one tire revolution.as one tire completes a full revolution, make sure the other tires stop at the same marked position.

Car is currently in the shop getting repainted.
I will check all that you have listed once I get it back (should be Wednesday or Thursday).
The problem occurs regardless when I accelerate, and only in the second gear. I can have the auto tranny in Drive, 3rd etc. and it still vibrates.
