1st gear = 35 mph
2nd gear = 61 mph
3rd gear = 87 mph
(Owner's Manual does not list maximum speeds of higher gears)
You will not be able to achieve redline in 5th gear in an unmodified WRX. 5th gear is for highway cruise economy and not geared correctly to achieve top speed.

I've never run 4th to redline but it does go well over 100mph I know that 
I've heard top speeds for the WRX in the 140 range. 4th should take you somewhere between 110 and 120.

speed safe on a safe venue with the right tools-
in my wrx wagon i've never exceeded 118 mph. i was too
nervous to exceed that because of the wonderful stock tires
that said- the wrx should reach around 140 unless you have an automatic which(if i'm not mistaken) which is limited to 108 or 110

The WRX will (depending on temp, humidity, elevation, etc. ... i think) get to ~143. Thats for 02-03. The 04-05 are more aerodynamic and may have a higher top speed, only slightly higher though.

Well not really, having a friend with an 04' myself at about 130'ish mph the front scoop started to howl like nothing else. We were well beyond the top 140mph on the dail when we stopped though.
Mods to that 04' wrx
accessport stage 2
helix up and down pipe, borla hush
Green panel filter
Even with the stock intake silencer in it has a turbo whistle like you wouldn't believe.

Ive gone around 135 to 142 range up and down for about 15-20 minutes straight in my 04 trying to get home in time for new years hah..
