Too many STIs
Too many STIs
I live in a town of about 150,000 people. Usually i only see one or two Subarus in general a week. Well yesterday while driving around i counted 3 STIs and 2 new WRXs. I am fearful of loosing the individualism of owning a Subaru. ONe of the main reason i bought my Subaru was because it was different and no body had one. Maybe i am just complaining and i have to learn to give this up because everyone knows what a Subaru is now and they are becoming over popular.
I think the arrival of the WRX to our shores completely changed many peoples' perception of Subaru.
Pre-WRX, not too many peeps looked at Subaru unless they needed AWD. Styling of their products was pretty lackluster and they really weren't considered performance cars(who would choose an SVX over a 300ZX, Supra or RX-7?).
C'mon, how many people lusted after a Subaru prior to the WRX?
Now, even my 12-year old nephew wants a Subie for his first car. That's how much their brand recognition has grown over the the last coupla years...all thanks to the WRX and, to a lesser extent, the STI.
What amazes me is that most of it is word of mouth(and the auto press). I mean, really, those commercials are hardly raising eyebrows.

My first new car was a 1997 Outback. Then an '02 WRX. Now I'm just another of the too many STi owners though.
Subaru is everything I need in a car.I don't care if there are a lot of Subies on the road. If 5,000 people each go buy a new STi tomorrow my car doesn't get any slower, or become any less fun to race at RallyCross events. However, I certainly can't argue that it feels good to have a less-common-than-most-of-the-other-boring-performance-cars car though.

From: Are you too one of the few still living the past? Well I can change that! With a simple wicket. Yes, my friend, a wicket. PM for details.
Car Info: No car right now....sob.
i live in colorado, and it seems that every other car is an outback. i see maybe 2-3 WRX's, almost no STi except mine. Imprezas are getting harder to spot nowadays, but maybe it is a colorado thing.

i dont know if this is a good thing..everyone wanting a subaru..or wrx. for all you younger folks on the boards, u're familiar with counter-strike im sure. all those beta 1,2,3,4,5 players hated when counter-strike caught on(its a game) and everyone started playing and ruining the game with cheaters or just immature kids, and i remember beta 4..when i started..was so fun, but now i dont even touch that game because 1) too many people ruins it and 2)when companies try to make their products better/satisfy more people..the product will be ruined and it'll just suck.
hopefully this doesnt happen to the wrx and subaru..that ricers and kids dont get their hands on this car and give it a bad name like the civics and put huge gt wings on it(well some owners already do that), and hopefully subaru doesnt try to market this car to the teenager/f&f group like the mistubushi does with their lancers. the wrx is a good car, and i think the bandwagon hoppers dont deserve it..because they just dontk now how grea tthis car really is, and coommunity that comes with it. i hope the subaru community doesnt get contaminated with little punk ricers!

I see more STI's than WRX's anymore...lol
I do wish I would have saved up and then bought an STI but I still can't justify spending $30,000 for a car...hehehe As a whole though they are very sick beasts!

Economies of scale mean a better product at a lower price. If you want individualism, it costs both in terms of reliability and $$$'s.
Take Ferrari as an example. Sure, it's a unique car, but you pay for it!

You want to see a lot of subarus, especially WRX and STI? Go to a ProRally. And I don't mean the rally cars. Just the spectator's cars.
I went to Wellsboro PA just recently, it was like a WRX/STI convention. Living in hicville USA where I do, I never see any subaru's except for mine, only pickup trucks, minivans and buicks.
I felt like I finally found where I belonged
