Tempted by the dark side...
I'll admit yesterday I was having some (uncharacteristic) buyer's remorse over my new '04 WRX... I realized that I hadn't looked at other cars that had interested me (we were basically looking at the WRX vs. cars my wife wanted - eg. 1.8T Jetta). When we went shopping for groceries I pulled in to a Nissan dealership to see a base 350Z.
The interior is even plainer than the WRX. Seats are almost exactly the same as the '04. Instruments, ok, I prefer the green WRX ones to the orange 350Z. Gear box is in a lot better spot, ball shaped shifter better grip than the narrow pointy WRX (I have to clamp the WRX shifter with my hand in a bird-beak position and hate it... looking for aftermarket).
Didn't drive it as it was late/dark and such. Wanted to, but didn't want to hassle with the salespeople so late in the day. A black 350z is sooooo good looking though, esp. compared to the WRX. And a flatter torque curve might feel better for stop-n-go driving.
The big bad *uh-oh* about it is the lack of a back seat, as we're thinking kids in the next three years.
Arrgh.
Then I think I just have to wait out the break-in and really push the WRX around and I'll be more satisfied. And the four seats should be the clincher.
Did anyone else compare the two before buying? Just tell me the WRX is better so I can get back to enjoying it.

While I am a hige fan of Subaru, I must say that the 350Z is a fine car.
However, it depends on your needs.
WRX is about as fast, has 2.5 times the people capacity, more luggage space, AWD.
Plus, with a turbo setup already in the car, power gains are cheaper.
Also, I see you are in Cambridge....Do you remember last winter?
The 350Z would have to stay parked on alot of those days, or at least really slow.

The Nissan would be great if you had a back up car with:
1. back seats
2. room for at least groceries, golf clubs, and whatever else you get (fit a 10,000 BTU air conditioner in the back seat of my sedan, because the trunk had my all important golf clubs and groceries we just picked up)
3. 4WD or AWD for the winter, 'cuz that Z's gonna rock in the snow...
I was having similar thoughts after buying my WRX (could have had a new Audi, Nissan, BMW for a little more outlay)...although I think your thoughts will change the first time you have your Rex out on the roads in 6 or more inches of snow/crap...it totally changed my view of the car...Audi Quattro's aren't even as confidence-inspiring as the WRX. I feel as confident driving in snow in the WRX as I do in my Jeep...the WRX stops better too...

drive in the dirt awile and remember the beauty of AWD and realize the fast that A. the 350z would be into a tree if you did that and B. you can do that with 3 buddys in the car

I drove a G35C before I bought my WRX STi. Let me tell you that I have no buyer's remorse. It was decided after I drove the G35C, and I did not drive or sit in an STi before I bought. The G35C is almost exactly the same as the 350Z, just 7 less hp and 2 extra back seats, about 6 extra inches in length, and 200 more lbs... and a less stiff suspension. The things that bugged me about the G35C is the blinkers... the sound inside the car just sounded so lame. Second was the shifter (the G35C I drove had 180 miles) and it was very very very stiff and notchy. It didn't glide in like my STi. Third was the pedals... the rubber didn't give me that "oooh awesome fast" feeling, hehehe. Any how, I liked the cars styling still and I do still want one, but I'm much happier with my STi. I absolutely love my car!!!
You'll if you made the right choice if you drove home with a smile
. I certainly did, I had the biggest smile from ear to ear

Go to:

If you want to see snowfall records, normals, etc.
You made the correct choice with the WRX!!!
I cross shopped an ecclectic list - Honda Element, Mini Cooper/CooperS, Jettas, Passats, Porsche 964's etc... Just about everything with 4 wheels. I love my '04 WRX Wagon. Room for family and hauling race tires. Great mileage when cruising and fun turbo boost and AWD the rest of the year.
Yes, it is such a well balanced car in so many respects...Which make is very versatile as well...but add the *fun* factor and I don't know why anyone would buy anything else!
