Temperature Gauge Operation?

Temperature Gauge Operation?
Does anyone know why Subaru temperature gauges don’t fluctuate once they reach operating temp? I’ve driven some other cars that actually move with the differing engine loads, for example Saturns and Dodges. All my Subies have always remained rock solid at just below ½ with the exception of one overheat. Then the needle did, in fact, move past ½.
