Technical Advice: EVAP system
I'd figure I post it here since there's none found here on i-club.com
Story:
One day right after filling up gas, my Subaru decided its been almost 6 years without getting any mechanical failure and decided to throw a DTC p1443 which indicates a "EVAP system Vent control function Malfunction" according to my Subaru Factory Service Manual and according to 3rd party sources "Evap System Vent Control solenoid valve malfunction".
Problem:
Car starts up fine wether it be traveling from point A to point B etc. etc. and no performance issue's. The only issue is when after filling up gas. Some how the engine cranks but doesnt start. The only way to get the engine to start is by stepping on the gas while cranking will the engine starts. And when it does start it stumbles and dies. The only success to get it to operate is by cranking while stepping on the gas and when the engine does start, I quickly shift into drive to slow drive off. Its all Good after that until the next fill up.
My DIY Diagnostic:
After countless hours of research via NASIOC, rs25.com, iwsti.com, and scoobymods.com, and my Subaru Factory Service Manual. I have checked the vent lines visually, visually inspected the charcoal canister and emptied out charcoal pellets on two occassions, blew 40 PSI of compressed air into the vent lines to hopefully blow out stuck charcoal pellets, connected the test connectors to check if the solenoids are operable by listening for the clicks, and even monitored some data loggs. My Pressure control Solenoid valve located near the charcoal canister is clicking which indicates its still operable. I also believe the Purge Control Solenoid valve under the intake manifold is operable to as I hear clicking near the area.
Resolution:
None so far as I reset and cleared the ECU and the Diagnostic Trouble Code and it came back on afer driving almost 30 miles.
If anybody encountered the same situation as me, please feel free to share your experience. The Car is grounded now until my date with Servco Subaru to see if there's something I missed.
My theory:
1. The Vent valve located under the chasis and on top of the gas tank is clogged by Charcaol pellets.
2.The Drain valve or Purge valve is clogged.
3. The Charcoal Canister needs to be replaced(obviously due to loose pellets).
Here are some illustrations: Unfortunately the Subaru FSM doesnt give specific details for numbers as far as temperature for Fuel Tank, etc. etc. So if you see some numbers that don't look right, please bring it up to my attention.

Thanks for your time,
Walter
