Subarus are from Japan. Right??
my whole life ive thought that subaru was Japanese and was the same as honda in the way that they are both built with quality in Japan. My friend told me that Subarus are built here in the US and are owned by General Motors (GMC) . please let me know. thanx.

no. subarus are Japanese, they are part of Fuji Heavy Industries Corp., which makes airplane parts. On the other hand, most Hondas today are built in the US. While I was car shopping these past few weeks, I noticed that the Impreza was the only car in the $20K price range that is 100% built in Japan. even the tires! GMC has nothing to do w/ them.

This is nothing new. While GM does not own Subaru outright, it is commonplace for corporations to diversify their portfolio, especially if it can gain market advantage from doing so.
Chrysler merged with Mercedes (Daimler-Benz). Ford did this, I think, in the 80's with Mazda. They owned 25% of that Japanese company, while the advertising theme from U.S. automakers was to "buy American". Sounds hypocritical, doesn't it? It isn't - it's called business.

"I'll be ordering my '03 RS in a few hours...it will take 6-8 weeks to come from Japan"
WTF u getting a RS from Japan for? y not go down the street to the nearest Subaru delaership and buy it there?
That RS better be better than the stander 2.5 US-spec RS cause it would be pointless to go to japan and get it. just my .02
tell me im wrong

I'm getting a deal due to some contacts at Subaru. The best way to get everything I want at the best price is to order directly from the factory in Japan. I'll still be going through my local Subaru dealer "down the street" to get the car.

No, it's the same as the US-Spec but it will have EVERYTHING I WANT, nothing I DON'T, and will have only been driven by ME from mile 1. The only way to do THAT is to get it from Japan.
BTW, 6-8 weeks sure beats the 6-8 MONTH waiting list I was on for a MINI Cooper!
Cheers!

The Outback Wagons I know are assembled in the U.S.
IIRC they say Made in Indiana in the back corner window...
not an Impreza though is it...
There was also talk about GM incorperating some of their parts in to subarus (I think that fell through)... Then the talk of GM using Subarus AWD in some GM cars, but I belive that died too because of disagreements as far as whose motors would be in the cars...

(Although there are certin case's where it won't matter)
As for only being driven by you from mile 1, not always the case either, there can be a few miles on it, even if it show's zero (or 1)
mile(s) on it when you take delivery, BUT at least you know it hasn't been beaten on by (just about) every prospective buyer who has driven it!
I would also be inclined to Order my car when the time comes.
The only reason not to is because you legitamately can't wait for delievery times on a car. Another thing to keep in mind however is it isn't always cheaper to order one either, so for some, the extra cost may factor in as well.
