are subaru motors interference engines?

basically, the engine is built so that the valves are close enough to the piston that they can hit each other when they open if cam timing is off for whatever reason. somebody else needs to explain it better. what are benefits of interference engines besides selling new valves and stuff when the timing belt breaks?
The CORRECT answer to your question, as stated, is YES and NO.
Some subaru motors are interference and some subaru motors are not. I have a 2002 WRX (usa model) and this IS an interference motor. I know of a few people that have legacys and the particular motor in there car is NOT an interference motor... Send subaru an e-mail and they will reply with the answer for the particular engine in question.
