StopTech Front Brake Line Advisory
We have characterized an issue on our FRONT stainless line kits on the WRX we would like our customers to be made aware of and evaluate on their vehicles. This would affect both stock replacement stainless lines and lines on our brake upgrade kits.
There is a line-locating tab approximately mid-way on the brake line that fastens to a bracket on the stock upright (some aftermarket suspensions have the same brackets, others may not). After installation, the line may be able to slide in either direction through the locating tab as the wheels turn, allowing the routing of the line to change and potentially interfere with some component of the suspension or the wheel.
The attached or linked image shows the correct position of the tab, and our recommendation that nylon Ty-Raps® or “Zip Ties” be used on either side of the locator to restrict line movement. We recommend a high quality Ty-Rap be used, such as the T&B manufactured parts we supply. The Ty-Raps can be placed on lines already installed on the car after the proper position has been confirmed. Be sure to check the lines are free from any hazardous contact by steering in both directions and checking different points of suspension travel.
We have seen the same type of line-locator used on other manufacturer’s stainless lines. If the line can move through the locator, we suggest the same type of fix be used, or contact the manufacturer for any recommendations.
If you need Ty-Raps for your StopTech line kit, we will gladly drop them in the mail as a courtesy to our customers.
If you have any questions, please contact us.
