having a discussion with some friends.....what is the top speed of a stock sti? is there a limiter on there? someone said that it is 176mph....

Check out my post on the front page regarding this issue. STI is limited to 155mph at 5950 RPM's. I had an '03 WRX and it was limited to 135 or 145...can't remember for certain

 

Even without a speed limiter or with the correct gearing, a stock STi does not have the power to push the Impreza body to 170+ mph. Horsepower requirement goes up exponentially with speed. Twice the speed might require four times the horsepower.

 

Does anyone in here actually have a "stock" STI? I know my STI pulls hard as hell all the way up until it hits the 155mph speed limiter. If I manage to finally get rid of the limiter on my STI, the next problem is gearing. I hit the limiter at 5950 RPM. That only leaves 1500 RPM until redline. I'm thinking a taller gear for 6th.

Manufacter rate top speed for 04-05 STi is 147 mph.....stock

For 07 STI, it is 155 mph top speed

 

haha if i wanted to get from point A to point B with no frills, i would have gotten a kia. people in morgan hill have to commute wherever or whatever we do, so it makes sense to get the commute over asap

 

Top speed on any USDM STI is 155mph according to the speedometer. It doesn't matter what year it is. My '04 is limited to 155mph. However, actual speed (speed without speedometer error) is around 147. I have tested this using GPS and when my limiter kicks in at 155mph, my GPS says 147 +/-

 

For real, more importantly, what's the speed rating on bald 070s?
