What about the other 1/2L of displacement? That's a huge difference in potential....The transmission and drivetrain is also a big improvement.....If you can afford an STI and mods, the potential is awesome....Go for it....I'm going to buy an STI as soon as my BMW is gone....2.5 RS-T and an STI...Yeah, baby...
I'm not saying they are identical. I would've bought an sti if there wasn't a $7000 dealer markup when I was shopping. I'm just sick of people saying that a wrx will never be an sti.. its a stupid thing to say. Sure it can, if you want to you can buy the sti long block, 6spd, bbs, brembos, gauges, seats, etc and throw it in your wrx, thus making it identical to an sti. Problem is you would spend much more than the (now retail) of an sti from the factory. When they first came out, this wasn't the case because of the markups all the dealers were adding (at least in CA).

Holy crap, $7k markup? That sucks. I would have figured that kind of markup for the Northeast where every second car on the road seems to be a Subaru. It seemed like they were leaving the dealership as fast as they got them in, now I'm starting to see them sit there for longer and longer. I had an over the phone quote of $500 over invoice from my local dealership. A salesman in the dealership in the next town over wanted my assurances that I would come to him first for a deal. There's still no way I'd buy it brand new, but that kind of vibe has to encourage some who are looking.
