STI beats EVO again!
I was at my local mitsu dealer (afterhours of course) showing the wife the EVO. There was something I noticed that I hadnt seen before, the EVO is a 2003 model not an 04, and for 30,812 bucks EVO with roof and wing, I would opt for the 2004 STI for a few bucks more...anyone else think this makes sense?

i cant talk trash on either, i dont know what you mean by a few bucks more, the STI will be much more then 30K and while i like the STI's power, its weight is what i dont like as well as the EVO's slightly more sophisticated AWD/computer system.....although the STI's LSD's are quite amazing...i dont think either one is better, i just think people should realize that both have their high points....
on another note, i think both are ugly compared to the earlier EVO's and STI's....its all a matter of preferance.

Something like that. . . basically saying they're both great cars! its up to you what you use them for, they'll both get a job done.. .

And you loose your fillings in the evo.... STi wins in speed in a straight line, and the evo wins in slalom because it's suspension (or lack there of) is so tight. Great for the track, but not for driving around town. STi sounds much better to me, and if you like tight suspension, you could always tune the STis suspension and then really whip the evo on everything...
Both great cars though, but I would get the sti regardless. The intertior of the evo looks funny to me, but that's probably because I'm on my fourth subaru now...

i disagree jacobsen, the EVO and STI are very very similar in both handling and striahgt line speed, very very close times all around....you can tune the STI's suspension to be better, but you can also tune the EVO's power to beat the STI.....no matter how you look at it, they come down to looks and comfort since the performance is soooo similar.
I like the STI's interior for the most part, but the EVO's recaros, momo steering wheel, and gauge cluster are all alittle more performance minded....... but your right, the STI's dash and interior is nicer. and i absolutely hate the EVO's altezzas, if i had an EVO, id put some of the EVO VII rear lights in
the evo and STI are like green apples and red apples, very similar, just comes down to preference, not performance.
btw....EVo has better has milage....but i think the STI costs less to modify.

I gotta disagree on the power part. Boxer 2.5 liter turbos have a higher ceiling than inline 2.0 liters. The problem comes from comparing one modded against the other stock. Doing the same things to each cr will pretty much hold the line- whichever was better before, will be better with equivalent mods.

well take into account the weight and the motors ability to hold power....the EVO's hollow cams and paper thin intake and exhaust manifold are works of art, with minor mods, the EVO has the most efficient motor, and with weight reducing materials, i think it could easily hold its own against the STI. and from what ive been told, the EVO's torque split on initial start is near perfect if the clutch is let off just perfectly...I dont know much about the STI, but the EVO is better then anyone knows and if its anything liek the EVO VII, then it should never be counted out.

does anybody know that the sti comes stock with the turbo set at 14.5 psi with 300hp and the evo comes stock at 19 psi with 271. Kinda funny if you ask me, but dont get me wrong I love both

yeah it is funny...ive heard different things about the turbo for the STi...but i think its 14-15psi....i have respect for both but i dont know how long the EVO's engine is gonna last..

the EVO VIII's engine's compression ratio is lower, that's why it runs more boost. It is a relative thing... but having more boost makes the engine more manic. It doesn't mean the reliability is any less, just that the turbo hits HARDER.
While the LSD's are cool on the STi and are great for putting the power to the ground out of the corner, i've read that it can make the car understeer like mad mid corner. If you lift off, it starts to push, get back on the power, and it will come around. I think the EVO VIII is more pointy, you have to work the STi a little more, and in a different way to get the same result.
