sti airplane!!!

so i was getting my wrx serviced today and this older guy was at the dealer getting his sti service and we started talk about subaru and why and how he get an sti. then he mentioned that he has a buddy that built a aerobatic 2 person seater plane built around the sti engine. i was like "WHAT!?!" i got check it out!! he invited me come look at it. so i think tommorrow i am goin to go check it out and hopefully get a ride in that plane. the old guy said that it is even painted wrb blue with yellow subaru decals on the side. he also mentioned that his buddy is planning on building another plane around the tribeca engine. so hopefully i will get to see the building stage of that tommorrw when i go check it out.

they have been using H4 engines in airplains for a long time, and they have been using subaru engines in kit planes for a while. Of corse they modify them. Im not to sure of the spicifics of the modification process, but usualy if its a trick plane they run a dry sump. Ive never seen an sti engine tho?

Don't go alone. You don't know this person. He might make an attempt to infiltrate your bung, so make sure you have a buddy there with you.

I'd just be very skeptical about meeting up with someone in the privacy of their home or something when I didn't know them....even at the ripe OLD age of nearly 32.

Have a nice "ride."

Nice. If the plane's owner will allow it, please take pics of the exterior and the engine. He must be a die hard Subaru fan to use the Subaru WRC color scheme on the airplane.

There are web sites that deal with the subject of Subaru engines converted to airplane duty and the modifications that need to accompany such a swap, including engine management. Neat stuff.
