steering/traction issues
steering/traction issues
recently, i've been having weird issues with my steering. i'd appreciate any help you guys can give me.
for diagnostic purposes, here the are the mods i have:
- bigger front and rear cusco sway bars
- spt chassis brace
- spt front strut tower bar
- bilstein/gtworx shocks + rce springs
- whiteline bump steer kit
i got the new shocks, springs, and bump steer kit installed about 7k miles ago. the car felt good. felt pretty solid.
but more recently, i've noticed that the steering seems off. there is seemingly less traction (through a turn, i have to keep adjusting my steering wheel further into the turn, even when the turn angle is not changing) and it feels like the vibration from the road is much less detectable in the steering wheel. everything feels so loose and numb.
the car seems to "track" grooves in the road or bumps. when it does this, the car kinda shifts as if it had hooked onto rails. both the steering wheel moves and the car moves. even before getting the new shocks and stuff, i think i still had a growing issue with the "tracking". but it seems worse now than it did before.
sometimes, when i back out of a parking space while the steering wheel is turned a good amount, i get some thump noise from the one of the front wheels. the thump is enough to bounce the car a little. the sensation is a little like rolling over a small bump on the ground. but this thump doesn't happen all the time, and i can't reliably reproduce it.
my tires are near the end of their life but certainly not done. i don't know if the tire wear alone could cause such a difference in steering feel and traction. it didn't seem to do this on my last set of tires.
i took a quick look under the car, and the only thing i noticed was that the endlinks on the front sway bars look a little off. they look pretty crooked, possibly even broken. i've already ordered new kartboy endlinks for the front and rear (i've been wanting to buy them for a while anyways). i'm not sure if that is the source of the problem though.
can anyone give me some ideas of what the issue might be? much thanks!
