Questions on my new 2000 Outback
Hi all,
I bought my 2000 Outback Limited on Thursday and am loving it.
Me and my wife wanted something a little bigger than our then current car. I'd wanted an Outback for a long time, so after driving some Ford Wagons (Focus and Taurus) I drove a 2001 Outback Sport (not to my tastes, too small and minimalist) and a 00 Outback Limited. Sporty, luxurious, awesome!
Just as a heads up for a future owner looking for a Subaru here in Michigan.. I bought my car from Hodges Subaru located in Ferndale. Ferndale isn't exactly around the corner for me, especially since I work about 3 minutes from Dwyer Subaru in Walled Lake, but a used Limited at Dwyer was listed for $16,900 whereas Hodges had a used Limited listed at $13,900 (similar miles). If you can, work with Chuck. He doesn't normally work in used cars, but their used car guy Bill was too busy to help me. Chuck was great, easy going, very smart and absolutely no pressure or hardballing. We went over ever sheet of paper on the car, talked friendly for probably 2 hours and were never rushed. Bill was a lot more like, well, a used car salesman. I feel I got a great deal and am very happy and plan to continue to deal with Chuck in the future.
I've got a few questions that have popped up thus far so am hoping the group here can help me.
First and foremost, I love the dual moonroofs. Really neat. However, on my rear moonroof, the cover refuses to slide open. I push and push and it's "stuck", something obviously has it forced to stay open. If I open the rear moonroof it grabs the cover and pushes it back, and if I close it again it pushes it forward. If I try to grab it while it's pushing forward, no go. I don't want to force it and break anything... but I don't see any switches or levels to control this. Any ideas?
Second thing.. my Limited has the upgraded Stereo system, with the little tweeters up front on the pillars, the 6 disc changer, the works. I've notice a little too much bass for my tastes in listening to music. For example, at low volumes the levels are fine. At normal listening volume however, the bass is quite thumpy, basically at the appropriate level if the music were turned up loud. When I turn the music loud the bass is seemingly at the same thumpy level as when the volume is normal (and it does sound superb!). I've toyed with the bass control on the head unit, but I have to turn the bass down to like 2 or 3 to get this level under control, which causes the music to sound tinny. I was wondering if there was an external amplifier for the system, which would have a gain or something to that effect? I know usually they put amps under the passenger seat, I haven't checked yet though..
Thanks so much, I'm sure I'll have lots of questions in the future...

My wife has a 2001 Outback Limited Sedan and we just love it. It only has one moon roof so I can't help with that. But for the stereo, I have the upgraded stereo on my WRX. On the subwoofer, it is also the amp which has controls for gain and cutoff. If you adjust those, you should be able to lower the boominess of the bass. If you do a search there should be some more specific info on how to adjust it. On my WRX the sub is under the passenger seat, I don't know where it is on the Outback wagon.

If you don't get your answer here, there may be a few more Legacy Outback owners on the new gen board at www.usmb.net or www.subaruoutback.org

There are adjustments on the subwoofer if you have one. It will be under the seat. Most of the time the only way to get at the controls is to remove the sub.
