Questions about STi with 15k or more
I had a ride/drive in an 04 with 20k on it last night and it was a total piece of ****. The car rattled like crazy, felt like a total beater with loose steering, acceleration felt pretty decent but thats it. It just felt terrible and now it makes me not want to buy a new sti, i'm afraid it will turn into a pos by 20k

turn up the stereo or get a nur spec
(unless, of course, you're willing to dynamat the whole damn thing)
car feels like a pile of junk in SF. surprised my rims aren't bent to hell after hearing and feeling some bone jarring bumps and crannies.
one of the rattles comes from the VIN plate, another from the dashboard plastic creaking against the gauges, and another from the glovebox. a vibrating sound comes from the maplights. and I think the gearbox clunks. and something tells me my drivers rear door is loose or something because whenever i'm going over a hundred (on track or wherever) and accelerating I hear vibrations like crazy...
oh, and I have 12k on my 05 STI.
not a single rattle on my 01 740iL with just over 100k miles.
but that's the price you pay for porsche killing performance out of a 4dr street car that's $32k. the gt3's and z06's i pass on sears probably have the same damn rattles b/c they're less insulated than their counterparts (the regular carreras and the regular corvettes). it's an amazing machine. if you can live with rattles (which WILL develop, I almost guarantee it unless you drive nothing but perfect autobahn), buy it, because it's such a connected driving experience with so much potential.

u speak like u know from experience owning an STi, every car rattles and every car will rattle. who knows what the car u rode in did, but every car is different just like every person is different. DONT JUDGE! Considering a subaru's are built to rally i am sure subaru considered durablilty but in other departments. if you want a quiet ride buy a bmw man, seriously. if your not a enthusiast for subies dont complain. How many of us here deal with the rattle and noisy cockpit. MAn i swear people like you dont even know. drive a GT2 and get back to me. Noisy as **** and it over 100,000 dollars. So lets see STi rattle, GT2 rattle i cant complain...

listen, these guys have a good point, but dont take it person personelly. That sti you road in may have had a few problems but that doesen't mean yours would. You said, that sti didn't feel that fast well (not to make an excuse) maybe the inter-cooler hoses where loose. That has been known to happen.
I gotta say this the sti has a big engine and a an awsome tranny and a HUGE amount of perfromance potential. When it comes to comfort the car was not original made for that and the sti version doesn't concentrate on that by any means. The sti does one thing really well and that is dominate...period.
You can modify it to suit your needs but it will always be a thorough breed. If you don't want it to be load than dyna-mat the entire interior floor and the creeks and road noise will go away. If you replace the steering bushings the vague feel you feel will disappear. The sti is worth it if you enjoy what it is a "beast".
I hope you make a good decision

well dude dont come to conclusion that all of them are like, like u just said he must have drove it to crap.. so if u thought he did why u assuming every other car will be like that. I never said gt2 was comparable it obvisouly not, but u get rattle in that car and rattle in this car. its part of a cars nature. soome do it more than others. and for a guy who thinks he's been in a porsche i think you need to be in one on the track, road noise and rattle like no other. Top gear in the test cars even says it. Personally i think u need to get over the fact that it has rattle cause it will. if your comparing daily drivablity i think u need to consider getting something else. or stick with ur 04. i swear man its like telling a wrc car dont rattle....also your standards seem a little high for car quality, so you really should shop in a different manufacturers market.
look here bottom line u dont like rattle dont buy the sti. You think performance sucks dont buy the sti.... get a legacy for bejesus sake. u even get leather OOoOOoOOOO
well happy shopping im done with this topic

For the sake of a loose comparison, my 2001 RS has 78,000 miles now (I bought it new in Oct. 2000) and whatrattles it has are all entirely my fault. My rear speakers rattle because they're 6x9s in 6" slots held down with one screw each. There's a rattle somewhere in the dash behind the stereo/HVAC, bt that didn't develop until I switched to Group N strut tops and stiffer suspension. Other than that, whenever I hear a rattle, its because there's a loose piece fo junk I left in the dash console, or rubbing on something seomewhere else in the car. I have no permanent rattles that are the fault of the way the car was built. The STi is even stiffer and quieter than the old GC/GM, so chances are the STi you buy and drive won't make any more noise than any similar car you drove in a similar way.
