question about top speed
I read earlier that the top speed for an older model outback, such as a 1997, is usually around 110 due to fuel getting cut. I've never pushed mine past 105, but I'd love to know what I could do to her to make her performance better. She's a 4cyl Legacy Outback w/ 165hp. here's a pic..

well you could start with basic bolt ons(exhaust, intake) and go from there...how much are you willing to spend? and would anyone know if the hp is the same for the 98 legacy outback wagons?

Hey thanks for the advice. My friend mentioned something about having to take to "govenor"(sp?) out first but i have no idea how I'd go about doing that. And no I don't have stock tires anymore... they're a few months old. As for 98 Legacys, I'm sure it would be about the same, give or take a little, but I'll look into it for ya later tonight.
im not sure if its the same but, i work on a farm and i took some classes on the the parts of a tractor and the govenor does limit the top speed but also if you are going down hill it keeps you from just rolling down like it was in neutral it holds you back a little bit. If it is the same part as on a car then don't listen to any advice your friend gives you. or you will always be riding your brakes

i'd attempt to kill the governor in my car except for there'd be no reason cause i doubt it'd go over 115 anyway. i think it's be sweet to mod an outback though. total annihilation of unsuspecting ricers
