Line up...

Ok basically i want a stronger understanding of Subaru's in general (mainly the STi's and WRX)... First off, the engine, and model.. like from what year to what year is the model name and engine and turbo.. 199? - 2002? 2003-2005? what's that model called, engine and turbo called? i.e: 1995-1999 e36 inline 6 ///m3 dual vanos.. sorry if it's not so clear, neither is my understanding for these cars YET.. THANKS!!

From - To
199? - 2002? - WRX, engine type boxer, inline etc.) (size liters), turbo ej??
199? - 2002? - STi, engine (type boxer, inline etc.) (size liters), turbo ej??
Changes that's been made from year and model to the next one. (i.e: body, brakes? engine? suspension?)

2003 - 2005 - WRX engine (type boxer, inline etc.) (size liters), turbo ej??
2003 - 2005 - STi engine (type boxer, inline etc.) (size liters), turbo ej??
Changes that's been made from year and model to the next one. (i.e: body, brakes? engine? suspension?)

2006 - 200? - WRX engine (type boxer, inline etc.) (size liters), turbo ej??
2006 - 200? - STi engine (type boxer, inline etc.) (size liters), turbo ej??

Before we get started, there was never an inline Subaru motor in an Impreza. Only the 2 or 3 cylinder cars we don't get in the US (except for older models) have inline motors. Every 4 or 6 cylinder motor Subaru makes is boxer style.

Anyway:

1993 - 2001: No WRXs or WRX STis in the US. Plenty of Imprezas, though. 1.8L (EJ18), 2.2L (EJ22) were the basic engines that were offered through most of the range. In 1998, the 2.5RS model came out, and up through 2001, they came with the 2.5L (EJ251) non-turbo engine. At the time, this was the fastest Impreza you could buy.

2002 - 2003 - WRX Bugeye. The first introduction of the WRX to the US. Had a 2.0L turbo charged engine (EJ205) with a TD04-13G turbo.

2004-2005 - Affectionatley known as the blob-eye. The first introduction of the WRX STi to the US. The WRX had the same motor as 2002-2003, while the STi had a 2.5L turbo charged engine (EJ257) with an IHI VF-39 turbo. In 2005, the STi got aluminum suspension pieces, like control arms and lateral links.

2006 - Yes another facelift to the current "corporate" nose. WRX Displacement gets bumped up to 2.5L (EJ255, I believe) but continues to use the TD04-13G turbo. The STi remains relatively unchanged with the addition of a wing on the top of the roof and an underbody diffuser.

For more detailed info, check out www.cars101.com

It contains the year by year history of all the most recent Subaru vehicles (in the US). Much more detailed then my little overview.
